With this Great class coming in...

I'd like to see Summerhill get a shot in the backfield next year. Kid's got a lot of talent from the few carries I saw this year. Seems to have a knack for finding holes.

Experience and development are bigger things than you might expect. Physically most guys will take the biggest jump in their lives in their first year of a college level S&C program. Everything is more complex from a mental standpoint. And experience whether from working on a scout team or in a game is a big factor. And don't forget, some of the returning guys were recruits we were once excited about. They didn't stop having potential just because we forgot about them. Many if not most good CFB players take a year or two of development before being ready to play at a high level.

IIRC, Bama expected to RS everyone in their '12 or '13 class... both of those classes were ranked #1 by Rivals. That's where you want to get. You want those great athletes and high level HS players coming in and being built into guys ready to play before asking them to play big roles.

I agree, it is way, way too early to assume all these freshmen will actually push seniors out of starting positions. Just to put this in perspective you are comparing the ages of 18year olds to 23+ men who have been playing cfb for years. With that being said if we are starting lots of true freshmen, especially early in the seaon then we are in trouble. If CBJ is going to put us back on the map then he will proabably do it in 1015. He really needs two more years.

With 14+ EE's some of these guys will be ahead of the curve. A spring practice and a full summer of college level PT can mean a lot to getting a kid to where if he can't start at least get him to the 2-3 deep.

If by "back on the map" you mean 9+ wins and contending in the East, then I agree. But this mired in 5-7, no bowl Sh*t needs to end with team 217. 7 regular season wins, 8 with a bowl shouldn't be pie in the sky. The biggest hurdle IMO is getting a healthy Worley & Dobbs really pushing each other to master CBJ's offense and getting to the point that they both can play EFFECTIVELY.

In a hushed whisper... I'm still not sure Hurd ends up at RB.

If he doesn't he transfers to an FCS school or sits a year so he can move to someone who sees him as a RB....Or CBJ is the best salesman since PT Barnum. But my money's on option 1.

Butch could put him at punter, Hurd ain't going anywhere. This kid is the definition of VFL.

A look back at this year's pre-season depth chart tells me that while the impact Freshmen may make it into the 2-deep, it's not a lock or even a likelihood that we'll see them as starters, at least initially.

Notice where North and Sutton started the season vs. where they ended up. I'm sure their talent shined through in practice, but games in front of a packed stadium sometimes affect players in unpredictable ways.

BTW - This isn't as relevant to the OP's post as it is to some of the other comments throughout the thread. And of course, it's just my humble opinion and speculation. I'm as excited as everyone else to see how this potentially legendary class pans out!

As fas as RB goes, I have watched many a UT game and we have not had a legitimate top SEC running back in awhile. I appreciate Lane's effort, but he fumbles too much and lacks the playmaking ability of former Vol RB's. I think Hurd will at least get 1/2 the playing time from Game 1 and take over completely by mid season. RB is probably the easiest position to jump in and start. Hurd's talent is too much to not hit the field day 1.

I said before this year if he hit 7 wins he would have take a big step to proving he's the right guy. Next year, I think six would be equivalent to 7 in '13.

He's going to deal with a tough schedule and youth. Even the supposed "easy" games aren't easy next year.

Right now, I think I see two pretty much guaranteed wins. The rest he'll have to fight for.

Sorry guys. I know it isn't popular. I've been wrong and admitted it before so I would this time... but he just doesn't run like a RB IMO. I haven't majored on this here... its just an opinion based off of admittedly very limited info.

FWIW, his running reminds me ALOT of Carl Pickens in HS. I saw Pickens play several times. That's not a bad thing at all. Just not typically the style of a CFB RB.

I hate to be this guy, but...

He's got 2 years max with us. I say put him in and see what happens. Why are you guys forgetting this great RB for next season?

Lane, North, and Pig will be starters on offense. They'll be rotating out lots, but they'll start.

I'm not sure if we can expect too many freshman to start on opening day. It is similar to Dobbs and Ferguson when we asked for one of them this season. Butch will play them when they are ready but not until then.

I'm more excited of the depth more so than who is on the field for the first snap every game. Start the game with Lane in the backfield then give Herd a fair share of snaps as well, the receiving corps speaks for itself. If our opponents sell out on the run they will pay dearly. Maybe even if he isn't starting bring Dobbs in for some option too. A lot of possibilities, it's exciting.
