Let’s say we don’t lose or gain anything in the portal.
Let’s also say that we get everyone on our roster (including Ethan Davis) as a full go injury wise in September.
Let’s rate each room.
With a 10 being the best possible and a 0 being the worst possible.
Here’s my guesses:

QB: 9
RB: 8
TE: 7
WR: 8
OL: 7

DL: 7
LB: 7
DB: 6

Kickers: 5

I don't mean this as bashing, but the biggest concern I had in what I got to see was the punting. I'd go 8 with the QBs, and 7 the rest of the way.

I was really surprised by that also. Most of them only went about 30 yards and were not good coverage kicks but that was on TV so its hard to tell.

Until the secondary shows massive improvement I don’t see it being above a 3. Easily the worst group on the team.

QB 8
RB 8
TE 5
OL 5
WR 7

DL 6
LB 7
DB 5

Reasoning:
OL still needs to “jell”
TE. loss of Fant
Defense STILL needs Development/Experience

You’re probably closer to being right than me. I had on orange colored glasses 🤓 when doing mine.

OL=8; I think the OL will be very good. Mincey and Crawford were good enough at LT last year. They are a year older and one of them should be able to move to RT and do a great job. But, we have options that may be better. We should also be able to replace Carvin with one of the transfers or with Nichols. Plus, Elarbee knows what he is doing.

DL=8; more experience and better depth inside; and I think we are going to be really pleased with our pass rushers. This is going to be a typically disruptive RG DL.

QB=7; great potential but I still need to see a few good games in a row before I am fully on board.

Otherwise I agree with the OP.

PS. We really need a couple of the new CBs to rise to the opportunity.

How does being on TV make it hard to tell? Does TV change yardage or impact hang-time?

Our TE room is thin, especially if Davis is hurt again. I’d put it at 5 or 6. Our RB room is good, but no one is all SEC. I’d probably knock it down to a 7.

I'm with you on the OL. Needs to get to the 5 for continuity, but this is the deepest I can ever remember a UT Oline. Is there a first round pick, a la Darnell Wright or Ju'wann James? Probably not. But you will have 4 seasoned vets - 3 or 4 more that have started multiple games along some versitility and young talent. I think there are 4 guys on this line that are on an NFL roster in 2025.

I'm 9.5 on the QB room now, and 7.5 with the rest. Punting is still uncertain along with kick and punt returns. I have faith in our special teams since JH got here so maybe 7 for special team until I see a lot more.

I’d knock them all down a spot or two, with the exception of our DBs and our kickers, which I’d just let sit with a big question mark for both. Hope and potential are immeasurable and we at Volnation are eternally hopeful. I’ve been from Missouri (“show me”) for so long with our Vols, it’s become second nature. Heup has indeed shown me a whole lot since he’s been here and I expect this year’s team to be better than last year’s. But I have so see improvement —vast improvement — in the secondary before I could offer a view on them. As somebody else pointed it, our punting game was my biggest concern yesterday.

QB 8 (only because we don’t have a true third guy, sorry Gaston I know you balled in the spring game) lol
RB 9 (Sampson and Seldon are gonna be phenomenal. Wright will be very good. Small and Bishop will be reliable. Crazy depth there at the moment.)
WR 8 (Bru and Ramel are proven first down machines, White will run by everyone. Could be 9 depending on how insane Thornton ends up being. )

Don’t know about the rest yet
