Witten a Lock for NFL HOF?

SUPER BOWL CHAMP. Countless Pro Bowls. TE of the year. Just a more well rounded player than Witten when you consider intangibles.

Witten has more Pro Bowl, All-Pro, and TE of the year selections than Chmura. Also, Witten's top two statistical seasons (not including the current one) are nearly equal to Chmura's career output. Super Bowl win and intangibles aside, I don't see the comparison between the two.

Chmura went to 3 pro bowls, was all-pro twice, and was tight end of the year once. Witten has been to 8, all pro 5 times, tight end of the year 3 times. Chmura didn't even have 200 receptions in his career. Jason is at 799.

People need to not be such homers sometimes
. Witten is good, but if you say to start a team you'd take him over Chmura or Coates than you're drinking bath water. Learn a little about the game before acting like you know it all

Should get in but will have a wait a while after he hangs it up... Much longer than the 5 year min. Helps that he plays for the Cowboys

Even Marv Cook isn't in. If Witten gets it before Mean Marvin, it'll be a sad day. I'm not saying he has no chance, but he'll need to wait In line.

i don't know if he is a lock because of the evolution of the position and the peers of his time and the new guys now at the tail end of his career.

he's not gronk, graham, gonzalez, dallas clark, etc, etc, etc.

damn fine football player, but i'm not sure he's a lock for the hall of fame.

shannon sharpe did not get in on the first ballot.

The main knock on Witten is that he's not a touchdown machine. But his stats for catches and yardage are incredible. He is also only 30, so he still has plenty of time to add to his stats. A little playoff success would help as well, but as a TE he doesn't exactly have much control over that.

Clark does not belong there but I see your point. Witten will get in I think.

And toujours.. you're apparently drinking bath water. With a whole lot of vodka in it.

There's a good chance that Witten could finish with more catches and yards than Gonzalez. That would put him in the top 10 of receivers all time. This is really a no brainer.

I can't believe people are arguing otherwise.

Witten will finish with better numbers than Sharpe.

These numbers are current.

JW also set the record for most coaches by a tight end in a single season and has one more game to go. He should also get to 1,000 yards this year (currently 983), which would be his 4th time to do so.

Evolution of the position will hold him back I think. Tight end production is exploding right now. I think he will get in. May take a few years though.

Chmura's best season was 54 REC/ 679 YD/ 7 TD. Played 7 seasons with a total of 188 REC

Coates' best season: 96 REC/ 1,174 YD/ 7 TD. Played 10 years with a total of 499 REC

Witten's best season: 96 REC/ 1,145/ 7 TD. Has played 10 seasons so far with 799 REC

Chmura finished with 2,253 career receiving yards and 17 TDs

Coates finished with 5,555 career receiving yards and 50 TDs

Witten has 8,892 yards and 43 TDs
