Women Play-By-Play Football Announcers...

Espn has given Beth Mowins a full slate of football games for the upcoming season. I am curious to know how Volnation feels about women play-by-play announcers. I can't wait for football to arrive, but I seem to want to turn the channel when I hear a woman announcing. Maybe I am the only one who feels this way?? Go Vols

If they are knowledgeable and their voice isn't annoying I have no problem with it. Would love for Erin Andrews or someone similar to call some. Couldn't be any worse than the ones who do the Vols ppv games. Just awful.

I understand the feeling, maybe it's sexist but I always wonder where their "expertise" is coming from. Obviously they were not football players, although if they stick strictly to the play-by-play that shouldn't be an issue.

No - its unacceptable. Women doing sideline reporting is the only thing that is reasonable. I change the channel every time - luckily that one annoying manwoman only did crappy noon time Big-10 games so i didn't want to watch anyway.

I don't know why, but there is something about football.

Like, if it's a basketball game, I'm cool with a woman doing play by play or even analysis.

But with football, I just don't like it.

This. And you're thinking of Pam Ward, I used to watch some Michigan State games when they were in the horrible ESPN 2 noon slots. She's annoying as hell.

Too much fake enthusiasm. I despise fake enthusiasm from announcers. Pam Ward with football and Marty Reid in NASCAR. If you can't show real excitement or at least mask your fake excitement, then you might be calling the wrong sport.

Football and baseball are 2 sports that drive me crazy when women announce them..I just can't deal with a woman's voice calling these 2 sports..

I haven't heard her, but I have trouble believing I'd find her more annoying than Verne or The Daves. There are plenty of bad announcers out there, I say give her a chance. If people don't like her work, they'll be sure to let ESPN know.

That being said, I don't think she should be working "big name" games until she earns the job.
