Wonder what Bruce Pearl thinks of this?

I guess Nebraska is rare also

That's the fault of Nebraska's AD, who fired a coach 4 seasons removed from a conference championship, 2 removed from a national title game, 2 removed from 3 straight top 10 finishes, who had one 7-7 season, but other than that finished with less than 10 wins in the whole season only once. Why? In the paraphrased words of said brilliant AD, he wouldn't allow Nebraska to slip into mediocrity. So he hired an NFL reject who proceeded to accumulate such records for Nebraska as most touchdowns allowed in a game, most points allowed in a first half, most points allowed in a game (all of those in the same afternoon), first time in 50 years that Nebraska had five straight losses, and so on.

Nebraska's problem was not akin to ours. Nebraska's athletic director irresponsibly jumped the gun and fired a coach who had done pretty well, all things considered, because 9 wins was apparently too mediocre. We are 10 years removed from a conference title, 7 years from a top 10 finish, and we have won fewer than 10 games in the regular season a whopping 5 times since we last won a title of any meaning.

I did notice that "Trans Am Mann" got quiet when the numbers came out.

Then again, he's offline now, so...

probably having quiche at the Fulmer compound.

If you translate Fulmer's decade into their rough basketball equivalents, it would look something like:

2000 eliminated 1st round of tournament
2001 made sweet 16; choked in next game
2002 NIT
2003 eliminated 1st round of tourney
2004 eliminated 2nd round of tourney
2005 losing season
2006 eliminated 1st round of tourney
2007 eliminated 2nd round of tourney
2008 on a path for a losing season

I doubt Pearl would expect to keep his job if he did that.

If Pearl becomes completely irrelevant year after year in SEC or national competition, then I would expect the same results for him.

Anyone else find it interesting that the same guy who started this thread, also started the ''Who will go to the Kentucky game, Fulmer's last"? That thread made it seem like he knew Fulmer would be gone and he was ok with it, this thread seems to be pro-Fulmer...I'm confused.

Maybe you are on Fulmers payroll. Who knows who you are. But, if you are a true Vol fan. And, you are happy with NO SEC Titles in 10 years. Maybe you need to support Vandy, Kentucky, Arkansas, Ole Miss, or Miss State. Us true Vol fans expect more out of a Traditioned National Elite Powerhouse.

You can't include 1998 for the 10 year rankings. Here is Fulmer's record the last 10 years. Assuming we go 6-6. I don't see anyway we win out. We will drop a game to USC, VU, or UK.

16 Tennessee 0.70175 80 34 0 114

6-6 will give Fulmer a record of 86-40 or .68253. If, Saban would have been at Bama, Petrino at Arkansas, Nutt at Miss, Brooks at UK, Miles at LSU, and Spurrier at USC the last 10 years. Fulmer is probably in the bottom third in the SEC in winning percentage!!! Regardless, Fulmer hasn't faired well against Richt and Meyer.

How can we win an SEC Title or National Title? When we can't even beat UF and UGA consistently. WE CAN'T. FULMER IS WASHED UP AND HAS TO GO!!!

While I agree with your general point, Fulmer has held his own against Richt. There have been some bad losses there, but we have handed them some bad losses, too.

Yeah im sure Bruce's heart goes out to Fulmer.
He looks across the hallway and sees a man with top recruiting classes year in and year out, helluva fanbase, budget that rivals Air Force spending.

I doubt Pearl would expect to keep his job if he did that.

It would have been easier to say Fulmer=Tubby Smith

Fulmer and Tubby Smith aren't anything alike.

Tubby doesn't pander to kids and has a defense first philosophy, so his recruiting suffers. The coaching itself is top notch.

Fulmer will pander to anyone breathing and that has helped his recruiting. He is an overly conservative coach who has no accountability mechanism for players, enforces no discipline and genuinely struggles to coach with the good ones in our league.

The results might be similar, but the coaches couldn't be more different. Hence, Tubby can probably coach elsewhere and make a mediocre team (like MN) better. Fulmer ain't gonna make anybody better.

'01 would be considered a Final Four appearance, we were one game away from the championship.

Tubby took Tulsa and Georgia to the Sweet 16 and won 20 games in his first year at Minnesota. Put Fulmer in charge of the football equivalent of those three programs and watch 4-8 seasons ensue.

I would go with:
2000: Sweet 16
2001: Elite Eight (or Final Four, considering the circumstances)
2002: Second Round
2003: Second Round
2004: Elite Eight
2005: missed NCAA and NIT
2006: Sweet 16
2007: Elite Eight

I compare the SEC CG to the Elite Eight, because of where you will be if you win.
Don't get me wrong - I agree with your entire premise - I just wanted to interject my own comparison.
