I guess Nebraska is rare also
That's the fault of Nebraska's AD, who fired a coach 4 seasons removed from a conference championship, 2 removed from a national title game, 2 removed from 3 straight top 10 finishes, who had one 7-7 season, but other than that finished with less than 10 wins in the whole season only once. Why? In the paraphrased words of said brilliant AD, he wouldn't allow Nebraska to slip into mediocrity. So he hired an NFL reject who proceeded to accumulate such records for Nebraska as most touchdowns allowed in a game, most points allowed in a first half, most points allowed in a game (all of those in the same afternoon), first time in 50 years that Nebraska had five straight losses, and so on.
Nebraska's problem was not akin to ours. Nebraska's athletic director irresponsibly jumped the gun and fired a coach who had done pretty well, all things considered, because 9 wins was apparently too mediocre. We are 10 years removed from a conference title, 7 years from a top 10 finish, and we have won fewer than 10 games in the regular season a whopping 5 times since we last won a title of any meaning.
