If there is one thing that is obvious very early in the reign of our new coach, it is that he and his staff understand the importance of working the fan base.

It's the little things. The way he handled himself in the PC - -calling himself the "caretaker of your football team." His attitude, the tweets by the assistants.

It may be pre-mediated, or it may just be how they roll. But, the fan buy-in is growing rapidly.

I think the Big Orange Nation will be in full-on "Jefferson" mode by the time fall gets here.

A clip if you don't get the reference: :)

+1...mainly because he's now the coach at UT.

I think Dooley was too separated from the former players and fanbase. If Jones creates a "UT family" it makes it to where we're all in this together.

Even after the UK loss most people were back on board Dooley by kick off of the NCSU game. They will be rabid once by August of 2013.

So if your not getting on the train
stand in front of it and see what happens

I'm excited to see how he closes out this class. Next season is going to be rough though no matter what.

+1. I'm all-in.

For the others, I wouldn't bet against this guy.

I agree next season will be tough. But I would rather go through it with a unified Vol nation and the splintered one we currently have.

Making former players fill out forms & crap in order to visit and meet with the team. Give me a break. Heaven forbid Al Wilson, Charles Davis, or any other former Vol connecting with our current players. You have to make time and welcome former players that want to help.

I was definitely not in favor of this hire when I first heard the name come up but after doing some research and seeing how this is developing I am fully onboard. If he brings in Tee today and they can sway a few recruits before NSD I won't be able to say when I have been more excited about our future. Go Vols!

I like his sales pitch and I absoulutely love the fact he has Tee on campus right now, but the other 1/2 won't come until I see what this team looks like at the start of the season and what it looks like at the end of the season.

But hey +1/2 is better than I was with this hire on Friday :)

I think it was all a part of the former coach's personality. He had a bit of a insecurity-issues/control freak vibe about him. The whole former player business probably stemmed from the same thing that caused him to limit assistant coaches and current players exposure to the media.

He seemed to want to filter everything through him. I actually sort of liked the guy. He just couldn't coach and HAD to go.

The new guy reads much more like an open book. He seems, at least a first glance, to have that "I am who I am" kind of attitude. There's nothing to hide and nothing to spin. Of course, the brighter spotlight could change that a bit.

Overall, he just seems a lot more like a football coach. Dooley's personality never really fit that mold in my mind.

It's gonna come down to winning. But the fanbase is critical part in the business aspect. And he's doing a great job on that front so far.
