Was anyone else NOT shocked that the US lost to Canada? When is the last time the USA put together an "All Star" team that didn't disappoint? It has happened so much lately it doesn't even cause a blink anymore. Let's face it, one of two things is happening here. 1-All major league sports in the US are like professional wrestling in that we are lead to believe these are the meanest toughest guys on earth, when suddenly your told growing up it is all like a big show. We are spending way to much money to see average or apparently below average players play. All this under the cloak of "Best in the world" or 2- Millionaire Ball players have no Heart at all? I mean if some kid from South Africa, Korea or Canada can out play an A Rod , Jeter, Lebron, or Carmello why are we paying 200-300 bucks to watch them?? Plus we all pay one way or the other. Whether in advertising cost for product endorsements or clothes shoes we all eat those Millions and for what? Below average ball players??

We'll be ok. Canada just got hot today. They had great starting pitching and the were hitting everything early. We were about 10 feet away from winning that game when Utley flied out to the warning track with two on.

That was probably the only baseball game that I'll watch until the playoffs and World Series.....and they lost to Canada. :shakehead:

Losing one game is not a choke job. Its baseball, anyone can lose one game. Tell me a team that is perfect? I garuntee no one goes undefeated in this tournament. So unless you want to get ready to explain how every team is a choke job........

If Mexico beats Canada By 3 runs No matter what USA does to South Africa USA could be out..So If that happens which is a very big possability...The one game =choke could have already happened.

Good. Then the US players can get back to their real jobs, preparing for the real season. This tournament was simply another stupid Bud Selig gimmick.

Does this really surprise any one?

Bud Selig is a used car salesman, who is now in charge of Major League Baseball.

I have about given up on baseball, I love their revenue sharing. The owner can pocket the money collected from teams who have to pay the luxery tax.

Great job Bud, thanks for ruining baseball!

 :blush2:

Oh yeah, GO REDLEGS BABY!

Revenue sharing helps teams out... As long as you have a salary cap to accompany it. It keeps the games competitive and thus viewership goes up, meaning all teams get more money. I know I would tune in to see the toppling of the Yankees dynasty once and for all if a salary cap were imposed in MLB.

Salary caps are socialist and the World Baseball Classic is another in a long line of bad ideas from Bud Selig.

The problem with professional sports is never going to fixed with salary caps. Some owners prefer to run their teams purely with an eye on the bottom line, others run it to win championships. I grew up in KC watching the Royals and the only thing I have against the Yankees can be summed up with two words, "Pine Tar." Aside from that, I would love for all the teams I follow to run the show exactly like George Steinbrenner. All the man does is make winning his number one objective in life, and no matter what happens, no excuse is good enough for his guys not winning..."unlike the Red Sox and their 'evil empire' crap, when they have what, the third highest payroll in baseball???" If owners want their teams to be competitive then they should take a financial risk with the team, after all, no risk no reward.

As much as people like to point to the Yankees as an example of what is wrong with baseball, I think it's pretty well documented that payroll does not necessarily equate to success in MLB i.e. the Mets and Orioles.

I don't care that all he wants to do is win... That's great! I just don't like the fact that the way he chooses to do it is by producing 15-20% of the total league payroll. I'd rather see a team be successful through being smart about putting together a team comprised of guys who work well and compliment one another on the field. And while yes, I despise the Yankees, my support of a salary cap in baseball is for an entirely different and independent set of reasons.

As far as revenue sharing... I am fenced on it. On one hand, it helps level the playing field in pro sports, but on the other, it unfairly rewards poorly marketed teams... But I do like salary caps.

Mexico destroyed Canada last night, 9-1. So we're still okay. Beat South Africa and we advance along with Mexico to the next pool.

I sure hope he is able to perform at that level during the season. Take the NL East title to Cincinatti.

It doesn't matter what Griffey does, the Reds have 0 pitching and 0 chance of winning the NL 'Central'...

they might not win the central but they will prolly have the most home runs in the NL with Griffey Willie Mo Pena and my favorite player Adam Dunn
