There are literally people all around the world that believe in the flat earth theory.

I guarantee you, without a shadow of a doubt, there are people that post regularly on VN that believe there is a chance the Earth is flat.

If someone they hold in high regard says anything, it must be true.

It is 2 stories that you have to have faith to believe. You either have faith that God created all or faith that scientists are correct.

I know a guy who believes that. He told me that theory with the earnest belief only a madman can cultivate and I couldn't think of anything to say other than "well, good luck with that" as I backed slowly away.

It's very simple.

"So, what's on the other side of this flat earth?"

Umm, err, well, you see...

That was one of my initial questions and of course you get the mumbo jumbo answer to deflect the question....Hmmm I wonder if that guy posts in the Political Forum?

I'm thinking FP or JoeVol.

Or could be 69 in one of his wasted moments.

Before my momma died she told me and my sisters that the Earth is a dodecahedron with one sasquatch assigned to roam each of the twelve faces of the dodecahedron. And my momma aint no liar.

Why does anybody give a **** about an NBA player's opinion about the world being flat? How is this a story?

You don't think a well known NBA All-Star proclaiming the world is flat isn't a story?

Also it's not like it was the lead story on network news, it's more a social media blowup. But still, of course it's going to be a story.

Reminds me of Will Hayes, LA Rams DE that doesn't think dinosaurs are real, but believes in mermaids...

Mermaids and dinosaurs, as explained by L.A. Rams DE William Hayes - St. Louis Rams Blog- ESPN

"For me, religion is also fake. It’s something that we’ve never seen, but something that you just have faith in. So for me, I can’t put faith in stuff like dinosaurs. For me, you either believe in it or you don’t believe in it. … I choose not to believe in dinosaurs."

On mermaids, and why they're more believable than a species that is supported by scientific evidence ...

"I’m not going to necessarily say a mermaid is real, but I can’t say it’s fake, either. My whole theory is that we find different species in the water every day, so who is to say that a man didn’t have sex with a fish and create a mermaid?"

"She's a-round like-a the apple!"
"She's a-flat like the pancake."
"Pasta fazool! She's a-round! She's a-firm! She's a-fully packed! She's a-round like-a my head!"
[bang!]
"She's a-flat like-a your head."

I guess the logical extension of anti-intellectualism is bandwagon dumbassery. The pendulum, it do swing.

For example, NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal has just become the fourth NBA star to make public remarks that he believes the Earth is flat, not round.

"I'm just saying. I drive from Florida to California all the time, and it's flat to me," he said on a podcast he hosts
