World welcomes Obama win

How many of those billions had to go into abstinence education programs? I remember, as of a few years ago, it was nearly half. That, my friends, is absolutely idiotic.

Great example of the failure of government!

I think it is also about the haves verses the have nots.
yes. If the economy is really in the tank come Fall, then I see no way that the Rs can pull it out. Blaming congress rarely works during a presidential election year. Besides, my two senators and representative are fine, it's the other 532 nincompoops that are screwing everything up (so says just about everyone).
funny everyone talks bout obama being black, even tho he is half white
The thing about that is that his campaign, and part of the media to a great extent, are selling him as a black candidate and using the concepts of "making history" and "racial reconcilliation" as selling points to white voters, as in "Vote for Obama and you can be a part of making history by electing the first black president, while also alleviating any sense of guilt you may feel about having it better than most black folks by throwing them a bone and giving them a new role model." If Obama was not black, or at least widely perceived as being black, he would've been trounced out of the race long ago as the underqualified, inexperienced first term congressman he actually is. You cannot sell yourself as black and then deny being black. Or maybe you can?

This is going to be a very nasty five months. This is a huge power struggle with everything on the line. Those who really believe that a McCain presidency is the equivalent of four more years of Bush will stop at nothing to bury the man. Those who think Obama will weaken the U.S.A. and drive us further down the path of socialism will be equally relentless in thier efforts. I am sure that we will all bear witness to the worst that American politics can offer. Hopefully, it will be tempered by a dose of the good side.

No. Giving it in the first place is idiotic.

what's wrong with adding conditions to the money the US sends. I know Abstinence only programs are unrealistic in their lofty goals, but abstinence does have a better track record of preventing AIDS than any other method.

This media response to Obama's winning the nomination reminds me of the media response to Gorbachev. Gorbachev was going to stop Reagan, bring us from the brink of nuclear war, and restore peace and balance to the force world. And the media fell over themselves praising him. Now, Obama is going to get the same treatment. These articles are just a taste of things to come, I think.

Why not just set fire to one billion dollars a year? It would have the same affect on AIDS in Africa.

The thing is the media will portray the economy as bad even if it is not. They've been doing it for a while now.
It will be more based on what people actually feel in thier purchasing power than what the media says about the state of the economy, IMO. You can tell me it's raining but if I walk out the door and see sunshine...

I fall in between. I think people vote their pocketbooks to a large degree, but the general media picture has a tremendous impact on undecided voter mindset. I say that because many of the undecideds are basing their vote on something other than money. Those voting pocketbooks already know which way they're headed.

Propaganda works on the average citizen. A family sits down to watch the evening news on a nightly basis and gets a non-stop onslaught of gas high, families hurting, foreclosing, etc...they'll begin to believe it whether it is accurate or not.

He won't. He'll be defending Obama against those who blame him for everything. It will be a role reversal.

He'll not have to worry about defending Obama too much. All the stuff he screws up will continue to be blamed on Bush.
