Worley had a terrible QBR.

Worley will have to be WAY more accurate with his downfield throws for them to do more downfield. He wasn't close on any of the long balls.
There is an old adage that still holds true most of the time. "Don't throw the short ones long and don't throw the long ones short".

He threw all of the ones I can remember early. That means he throws to a spot and trusts the WR to get off coverage and make it to that spot. You NEVER want to throw those short and give the D an opportunity to INT.

Also, the receivers didn't get as much separation on the deep patterns as you'd expect from this group. I'll be surprised if we don't see 200+ yards running instead, just to give the line a chance to knock some folks around. They need a confidence builder after that last performance.
USU's whole D philosophy is built around stopping the run at all costs and avoiding long completions. They hope that you'll make enough mistakes to stop yourself in the short passing game. UT murdered them with "dink and dunk".

IF it had been necessary, UT could have both run and thrown deep more vs USU. It just wasn't necessary.

I think all the other stats are misleading, too. Worley had an alright game. It was far from fantastic. He missed a lot of wide open receivers, but he made a lot of the short throws well.

Whatever his rating was; Worley looked a ton better at getting the ball out on time and accurately. The deep balls left something to be desired, but overall, hard to find much wrong with his performance.

because we had the advantage on the outside, Worley made a ton of short throws to the sidelines and relied on athleticism of the receiver/back to gain the yardage.

Deep balls we not so good, but it was the first game and timing may not have been right.

Overall I dont think Worley had too much opportunity to screw up and I think he did the job that CBJ asked him to do very well.

running game was not great at all, seemed like we passed way too much. I think it kept us from scoring more in the first half.

looked good overall but, comes up short on the long balls.
Hope he and our receivers improve over time.
We will need the deep threat in the tough games.

He looked great compared to last season... There were a few throws but the main thing was when he missed he missed in the right spots.. The only pass he threw that reminded me of the old Worley was the one with north on a slant and he hit him at the shins but even then he still caught it... I thought if he hit him in the numbers he would if scored. Although his throw to Pearson it was back shoulder and he almost caught it, it really should of been but I thought that was his best throw and it was an incomplete pass, or the one where the threaded the needle with josh smith... And how about that kid... He looked good!

Rewatching the game now. The commentators and supporters are blowing up Worley in this 4th quarter. I knew Worley had a great camp at the Manning Passing Academy but I didn't know Archie himself called Butch to tell him how exceptional he was. That's impressive.

The sideline reporter also said all game long Worley was keeping the offense fired up and coaching and mentoring them. We may have a QB on our hands folks.

Everyone loves the deep bomb plays but the short passes to your skilled players is a higher percentage play and gives those skilled players the opportunity to turn a short pass into a much bigger play. The Josh Smith, Von Pearson, and Hurd plays are good examples. Also, I read an article that compared CBJ offense vs. CBK offense from a Cincy guru and it specifically pointed out that CBJ was all for the short high percentage play to the skilled players vs. the long bomb plays CBK prefered.

A mediocre QB with confidence beats a talented QB without. I did like his confidence and any play he didn't have to think about. The quick hitters were delivered on time and accurately.

Bottom line is this...... the only stat that matters is this...the final score..... we took care of that one very well.
