I’m thinking it’s probaly if Joe gets hurt or struggles and Nico is pressed into action early and we go 8-4 or 7-5 which would be huge disappointments for this team. The floor is 7-5 imo if those two things happen, injuries, and the Joe Milton of 2021 shows back up. What are your biggest fears and worries for the upcoming season? Personally I have us going 11-2 or 10-3 but I like to get everyone’s thoughts on both sides of the coin of the 2023 season.

Worst case scenario for 2024

OK, gotta ask ya VolDog, did you have nightmares last night? Wake up on the wrong side of the bed? Have an argument w your better half??

Let's switch the narrative and be positive before 6am, ok? How about "Best Case Scenario for 2024". Now wait, 2024 is next year, not this year. So, did you mean to title your thread for 2023 or 2024??

Go back to bed and wake up on the other side of the bed tomorrow. Life will be a little clearer and we can discuss the CEILING, not the basement

Well I did post a best case scenario thread back a couple of months ago.

It's always going to be the OL for me. I think referencing key injuries is kind of a given when talking about worst case. Joe just needs to be decent. The WRs and RBs will be fine. The defense can't be any worse, surely. But the OL is what worries me the most (not saying I'm super worried).

I agree. I think the interior will be fine this year. But we dont have a lot of great options at OT.

I think about how the Bama game would have been so much different if Darnell wasnt shutting down Anderson all night. A couple key sacks or tfls from him at the wrong time and its game over.

I'm still thinking 10-2, but I think it will be more of a struggle than last year, with closer games and not beating a top 10 team.

I agree with Voldog here...worst case scenario is Joe goes out in the first or second game and tries to prove he's a 'tough guy' (which has been one of his biggest knocks...i.e. "for his size he seems to shy away from getting hit") and ends up injured.

That presses Nico into service and that can go one of two ways. I do think though that even if Nico isn't "lights out" he still wins us some games, but drops all the bog ones. So yeah I think the worst case, or floor, for this team is 7-5 (8-5 with the bowl game).

Is 7-5 disappointing? Sure.
Is 7-5 the end of the world and kills what Heupel is trying to get done here at UT? Given the circumstances of a major injury at the most key position, no it isn't.

I’m not really worried about JH offense. He seems to thrive in all hands on deck mentality and shift philosophy to suit players skill set regardless of who the qb is. I’m more worried about our DBs/back 7 regressing or not taking the next step. We can’t hope to sustain high level winning not being able to get off the field on 3rd down.

One key step to enriching your life, and the lives of those around you, is not to worry about things that are outside of your control. Especially if they haven't even happened and may never.

If you have responsibility for something, say your children or your job, then absolutely, you should brainstorm things that could go wrong so you have a decent plan for what to do about them. You can set aside resources you might need, think it through so you're calmer and better organized if the time ever comes, and so on.

But if it is entirely outside your control, and it does not enrich your life or the lives of your friends or family to think about it, leave it be. If your brain serves it up, immediately dismiss it. Carry on with what does enrich your life, and what you can control.

Simple idea. Surprisingly few people take advantage of it.

Go Vols!

If UT goes 7-5…..VN will explode.

Well then. Vols go 11-1 with a win over uga. We revenge a regular season loss to Bama in the sec champ game.

There's not 2 teams better than Tennessee, on its schedule so...

This. All day long. Our back end had better take the next step or even a couple. If they do, our defense could be very good.

Worst Case Scenario:
Danny White is offered so much money by USC or ND that his wife makes him go.

For the football season, we have a 1994 scenario and Gaston Moore takes the reigns at QB. 1994 worked out ok after Colquitt and Helton went down, so you never know.

I think ND's position is already filled fortunately.

Meh, I said a few months ago on the other same topic I'm going with 8-4 as my expected.

Whether you think so or not, we are reloading a bit this year with an eye on 24.

GA and Bama get us. Honestly A&M worries me. They have Alabama level talent and last year had a Candy record. They will be much better this year.

We will drop one we are not expecting. Maybe Florida as it is at their house in Joes first true road game.

As long as we wax the Lamecocks cheeks and hold serve against everybody else, I'm not gonna complain.

Worst case is Joe is a dud (which won't happen), Nico can still lead us to 8-4

Best Case - Joe is runner up in Heisman (UT will never win one with all the politics). 12-1 record. Runner up in NC.
