I mean is the best case scenario not obvious?

Well, yes, you are right. Beating Kentucky and Vanderbilt in the same year is like, woooohoooooooooo!!! I mean, life get any better than that????????

There's not 2 teams better than Tennessee, on its schedule so...

Bad thing is the better teams don't always win. Like we saw against SCar last season. We just can't have any of those type games and we will be fine.

My biggest worry 's are on the Oline and Secondary. We definitely can't lose Milton or any of our top WR's either . As we saw in the spring game, there's little help behind White, Keyton, Bru and Thornton.

I’m thinking it’s probaly if Joe gets hurt or struggles and Nico is pressed into action early and we go 8-4 or 7-5 which would be huge disappointments for this team. The floor is 7-5 imo if those two things happen, injuries, and the Joe Milton of 2021 shows back up. What are your biggest fears and worries for the upcoming season? Personally I have us going 11-2 or 10-3 but I like to get everyone’s thoughts on both sides of the coin of the 2023 season.

Worst case is if Oak Ridge has a melt down where the heat is so intense that the checkered statue of Smokey is damaged (the one a bit North of Neyland - by the common center) Probably would hurt some people too.
Probably a worst case.

BVS is a helluva drug.

You’re likely dead on with this take. A prime example would be how GA has tried to defend the TN offense. I am positive that Kirby was preaching the old cliche saying “if you give them an inch, the will take a mile.” You know always be ready, always be in position, and always know every assignment. And still there were several times where TN receivers were getting wide open. We were fortunate that our guys matched up well and very fortunate that Hooker missed a few throws.

Between the weather and the pressure, it was a tough ask of Hooker in that game to mount a comeback. But you’re probably right about teams spending much time preparing for that offense. At the same time, knowing what needs to be done is much different than being able to do it.

Thanks, yeah I just don’t think that there is a tried and true defensive scheme to defend CJH’s offense. From the wide splits that spread out the defense to the fast tempo that tires out, confuses, and gets defenders out of position, it’s just really tough to prepare for IMO. The wide spread helps with the run game while also usually allowing the QB to make quick reads of a safety or linebackers first steps at the snap. This allows the QB to quickly recognize potential mismatches or defensive weaknesses on individual plays. It’s a tough ask for any defense to consistently stop.

Try as you might, there probably isn’t a scout team that can give a fair representation in practice. A defense just has to hope that they match up well, and spend a ton of time preparing. I think to begin with you have to stop the running game without committing too many players to the box. Applying pressure on the QB is also key. If a defense can’t do these two things at least fairly consistently, they are likely in for a long day.

I find it comical that when CJH was hired many were doubting that his scheme could work in the SEC. I think that doubt is put to bed. It’s also funny that many categorize it as a gimmick offense that will soon be figured out.

The one negative I see is that it can make for long games for the TN defense. This should get a bit better if the Vols can keep adding talent and depth on Defense through the portal and recruiting. In close games it’s certainly a negative late in games if the defense has been on the field for a very long time.

My watch of that game is that your DL whipped our OL, and GA controlled the LOS on both sides. That was the big difference.

I agree, if the O-line can’t hold their own and gets pushed around, even a great offensive scheme is going to struggle. That seems to be a recurring opinion, and I absolutely agree.

Our Oline did a great job vs Bama, giving Hooker time in the pocket. Alas, not so with UGA.

One key step to enriching your life, and the lives of those around you, is not to worry about things that are outside of your control. Especially if they haven't even happened and may never.

If you have responsibility for something, say your children or your job, then absolutely, you should brainstorm things that could go wrong so you have a decent plan for what to do about them. You can set aside resources you might need, think it through so you're calmer and better organized if the time ever comes, and so on.

But if it is entirely outside your control, and it does not enrich your life or the lives of your friends or family to think about it, leave it be. If your brain serves it up, immediately dismiss it. Carry on with what does enrich your life, and what you can control.

Simple idea. Surprisingly few people take advantage of it.

Go Vols!

Good advise. I quit watching cable news about two years ago. People get emotionally tied to issues that they have little or no influence over. Ukraine war one example. My son challenged me to read War and Peace and I got that done. Gotta say it is a simple formula and it takes unnecessary stress away. Also distancing yourself from negative people (whiners) helps too.

I know you have been watching the last few seasons. O-line is okay, it's that secondary. Not going to win many games giving up 15 yds dinks and dunks or, 3rd and 20, first downs. There is still hope with an injured O-line. Defense can definitely do worse if the secondary continues to be missing in action and our front seven gets no pressure. Last year the D saved face by being able to stop the run game for the most part. Imagine if our run "D" falls off
I'm assuming there is going to be a little bit of improvement. Surely, as they were pretty awful. Just a tiny bit of improvement makes a HUGES difference last year.
What I'm saying is, everyone is worrying about the QB and WRs but I don't think that's the concern. It might not even drop off that much, IF the OL holds up.
I know you're not disagreeing with me and I'm not disagreeing with you. Should be interesting. Won't take much one way or the other to make a great or struggle season IMO.

That's the problem with playing on the road in the SEC. OL gets about 0.2 seconds slower off the snap because of noise. Makes a big difference. That's why there's no way we win in Tuscaloosa this year.

I agree with others here, OL play will be the difference in 10-2 or 8-4. That plus injuries, no way to really know until it all plays out. Still, I love where we're at compared to years past.

I think many estimate Darnell Wrights value well. Unfortunately, I think everyone is devaluing the rest of the Oline. There is alot of tape to prove that this year's line will be even better than last year! Plenty of tape to prove Milton will be as good as Hendon and alittle hope that without major injuries the defense will be 5% better on 3rd down. All this comes with an undefeated season!!!

Seems 2 me with the coaches releasing the Milton hype videos etc. They really believe in him. Which makes me a lil more confident. If he's at least orange bowl Joe most games we are 10-3 11-2. I personally think he's gonna ball out.

I think aTm gets it together this year.
They are going to be a lot to handle this season.
Petrino is scum, but he can coach and develop players, and that has been the missing link down there.
I believe the offense comes alive and that will make the defense better, by taking a lot of pressure off of them.
I worry him n jimbo will be oil n water

9-3 should be the floor. That allows one slip up outside Bama and UGA. A good coaching staff shouldn’t lose multiple games they shouldn’t. And we should be favored in every game besides those two imo

Worst case … Armageddon. Big meteor smashing into the stadium. Good news is we go first.
