Auburn's coach was the Tenn fanbase top choice according to several polls when Heupel was hired. Auburn started the season on life support and did not even know who their starting QB was going to be.
We started the season ranked, our QB was getting early Heisman votes and our coach just got one of the largest contracts in College Football..

A man 63 years old said to me last night that other than the mid through late 90’s had Tennessee ever been relevant in his life. Some of you act like we are supposed to be National contenders every year. Growing up on the 70 & 80’s, it was expected to see 8-3 seasons with 7-4 along with 6-5 some years. I don’t understand why many of you on here believe UT should be 15-0 and National Champions every year. I wish we could, but have real expectations. We still need real depth across the line, a secondary that plays the pass and can make tackles, and in game changes from coaching staff.

We all should be happy at 8-4. Joe is decent but he is not going to win games. Coaches have to have better play calling when one aspect is not working. We never adjusted to Mizzou playing essentially a 3-3 Defense. When we couldn’t run we panicked. Have to have better game plan and the ability to adjust when plan A doesn’t work. I’m glad 8-4 is achievable with how poorly we have played in most games this season. It could be worse. We are a little above average with exceptional facilities, a state that does not consistently produce many/ if any top 100 players in the country.

Oh yeah, Nico could be a flop. We don’t know. The waste your life allowing a game with a pigskin control it.

I think most Tennessee fans agree that Josh Heupel has done a fine job in his first three seasons. It hasn't been perfect, but unlike Freeze at Auburn ... Heupel has had scholarship reductions and an NCAA investigation into Level 1 infractions to contend with. Heupel also inherited a team which went 3-7 in 2020. He was hired very late in the 2021 recruiting cycle and didn't have time to put any kind of class together for that first season. So, it wasn't all peaches and cream for Heupel either,

.... and once again, this is a Tennessee forum. Who cares about Auburn?

Since my early 20s, I have decided to enjoy the Vols and cheer for our teams, but with one proviso: Never let a bunch of 18-23 year old kids determine your emotional state. I am happy with the wins, and happy for the players. I am not sad when the loss comes, but disappointed for the players and coaches who put in the massive efforts to get the product on the field.

The Vols are not my emotional employees, thus I do not call for people to be fired or benched because my selfish "needs" have not been fulfilled. Enjoy the good times, but don't let the occasional mis-steps cloud your days.

No. When Troy had about 700 yards at Neyland the game after Dooley was fired. That was the worst defensive performance in the history of Tennessee football when figuring in that it was Troy.

I don't care about Auburn either, but I have to be honest to hear an announcer say last night that" Auburn can finish we the same record as Tennessee or will be looking at the same bowl selections as Tennessee now " pisses me off.

We can sit here all day going over excuses. 8-4 for the talent we have on this team is disappointing.

We lost to North Texas State one year also. Now they are just the University of North Texas---but they gave us our special teams coach :) :) :)

Ever???? Don’t have time to read all the comments. The OP must have forgotten about Georgia State and Wyoming from a few years back. And when KY beat us with a WR playing QB. I know everybody is upset but jeebus, let’s be realistic. I’ll give you it was certainly the worst overall performance of the Josh era. Offense, defense and coaches.

I didn’t think we’d go 10 and 2 but maybe 9and 3. But probably not after all the injuries. And I’ve come to the conclusion that while Joe is a serviceable QB, he really doesn’t fit Josh’s system. And Nico wasn’t ready. Joe ain’t Hendon Hooker and this offense is nowhere close to last year. Hard to replace 5 guys who are on NFL rosters now. Agree that the defense and especially the secondary is still a major problem. Time to get ready for what should be a great basketball season. That team is loaded.
