UT beat USCjr last year? Using the FSU logic, UT lost the starting QB and was using the backup.

Remember, FSU's 2nd string QB will be back for the Bowl game. They will not be using the 3rd stringer.

The committee is going to do all it can to shoe horn an SEC team in. It's good for business.

Don't be difficult. The OP was obviously comparing a similar situation....major player was hurt on a top 4 team. What would the selection committee have done in our situation last year was all he was asking.

Once again, the situations aren't comparable. One lost their starter but is a 13-0 P5 Champ. The other was an 11-1 non division / p5 champ without their starter....

The concern last year would have been TCU bribing the committee for the 4th spot over TN. The lost to South Carolina is what cracked the door open for Saban to try and slip in.

With Bama, Georgia and Ohio State guaranteed a seat at the expanded playoff table every year, I think some of the controversy will die down.

If you really take the time to read the selection committees mission statement and selection criteria (all of it) there is no controversy. They selected the 4 best teams, well minus TX, GA or OH State are both better for the playoffs and that is their task. Myself, I was convinced and hoping that they would fold to pressure and exclude the SEC but they didn't and for the most part followed their directive.

I get the outrage but the committee minus 1 questionable selection (TX) did their job.

Last year, they selected TCU even with a loss to Kansas State in their conference championship game, so please pardon me if I don't pay much heed to their written rules. After last year's NC fiasco, they came to their senses and decided to follow the written selection rules this year. Even with that said, they left out Georgia who in truth is still a top 4 team, only because no one outside the state of Georgia wanted to see them 3-peat (thank goodness!).

The stupid Bulldawgs has more of a legit gripe than FSU for being discluded.

I don't have an argument against that line of thinking. As I said earlier TX is a questionable inclusion over GA or Oh State.

Different circumstances. TCU is not in this year with all the undefeated/1 loss conference champions. FSU is easily in last years even without Travis.

Taking 4 teams when there is 5 power conferences was the stupidest thing ever. It's been pretty much a moot point till this year but it finally bit them. Teams got screwed. Georgia is one of the best 4 and FSU should have had the opportunity. 12 team will prevent this from happening but going to be a lot more blowouts.

But they were in the top 4 prior to the USC game.
Tennessee was at the #5 spot in the CFP rankings going into the game with South Carolina. That week it was:

1. Georgia (10-0)
2. Ohio State (10-0)
3. Michigan (10-0)
4. TCU (10-0)
5. Tennessee (9-1)
6. LSU (8-2)
7. USC (9-1)
8. Alabama (8-2)
9. Clemson (9-1)
10. Utah (8-2)

The "committiee" will put in whoever Vegas tells them to put in. They were given veto power the day they were embraced by the sports media and the NCAA. There will be a more $$$ bet on the games with bama vs. FSU. It's not just happenstance that all these weird game decisions made by officials are happening and we are seeing vastly more of them this year. Inexplicable calls altering games are happening everywhere now. It's only going to get worse.

But you are trying to compare an 11-1 Tennessee non division / non SEC champ to a 13-0 P5 champ lol
Clearly we don’t all look at this the same but any Power 5 undefeated team that plays a good OOC schedule should be in. You win them all and there’s nothing to debate. We’re no better off today than when 2004 Auburn was left out, which led to the playoff and was supposed to be fixed by the playoff. Once you lose a game now you’ve opened the door to debates over resumes. Now, I agree that the ACC is one of, if not the, weakest P5 conference. So had FSU played Michigan’s OOC schedule then maybe I could see taking Bama over them. Not when they beat LSU and Florida on top of running through the ACC.

The baffling part for me is this:

Jordan Travis injury is good enough to keep 13-0 FSU out of playoff so why is he not the Heisman winner?

On top of that, the passing stats for Michigan's final 3 games are weaker than FSU's final 3 games that included FSU using 3 QB's.....

I really do think Michigan is the best team in the country because of their run game and defense.... But I do think FSU's defense is prolly better and they would have their backup...

If we went by assumptions and who people think is the better team then Oregon would’ve been selected over Washington before the Pac 12 Championship game. Oregon was a 10-point favorite. Yes, Bama looks better than FSU today but we don’t actually know that Bama would beat FSU if they played in the playoff. And I don’t buy that the FSU-UGA game will tell us whether the committee got it right or wrong. It’s irrelevant. If UGA wins it doesn’t mean FSU should’ve been left out and if FSU wins it doesn’t mean they should’ve been in.
