The label Democrat or Republican is not that important. What's far more important is where the candidate's policy positions put him/her on the left/right scale. Both Obama and McCain are far too left for my tastes. If a "Democrat" fell further to the right than McCain, labeled as a Republican, I would be more inclined to vote for the Democrat than the Republican. That said, can you name any Democrat that is near the center or to the right of center?

Probably not a dem I can think of that I would vote for over McCain. McCain matches my views pretty well but I wish he was about 10 years younger.

If the Republican candidate was the opposite of McCain (socially conservative but fiscally and foreign policy left leaning) then I would look to some Democratic choices.

Zell Miller was (Is he still alive?)

Depending on how you prioritize issues, Joe Lieberman might be.

JL is one I had in mind. His economic policies are a bit too left leaning for me but otherwise I agree with his stances on foreign policy (for the most part) and respect his willingness to stick to a position even if it goes against some in his party.

I would further add that if JL was removed from the party for his douchebaggery, it's hard to imagine there are any democratic representatives left given the magnitude of their douchebagituditity.

It sounds like we need some sort of quantifiable measurement--a scale of douchbaggeriness, if you will.

I have to be honest, I just wanted to work the word douchebaggery into conversation.

I wonder just how many variations of the word douchebag we could come up with.........Sounds like a challenge doesn't it?

want douchebaggery?

Barack Obama actively campaigned against Michael Steele, telling a church congregation to not be fooled by the fact that Steele was an African American. Barack also supported the white democratic candidate over Kwesi Mfume.

Then, Barack travels to TN to implore voters to elect Harold Ford, Jr. to the senate because, to paraphrase, "it's lonely being the only African American in the Senate."

Now, I know that Obama wants democrats elected, but to tell voters in Maryland to not vote based on race, while asking for TN voters to consider race is douchebaggery, plain and simple.
