..To hire anybody with a big name at this point? Not because of Hart, UT's prestige, nothing like that.

But..

Because of the petition, the twitters.

Everything every UT fan has revolving around Pearl.

Wouldn't that deter any reasonable coach who can damn well see that Tennessee doesn't want him here? No matter how good he is, he wouldn't outlast Pearl's shadow. Tennessee fans will be their own undoing if Pearl ISN'T hired. Because no one else will want the job.

(This isn't a Pearl thread, so please don't merge it.)

I'm for bringing Pearl back, however I do think the petition thing and Twitter buzz have been overblown.

No, I don't agree with that.

While we love Bruce, and I would love to have Bruce back, I think we want Bruce because he proved himself here. But another coach could do what he did here. Cuonzo managed to get good talent here, and yet, just like Dooley, was unable to develop the talent that he brought in.

I feel like another coach could be successful here, and start his own legacy. All he has to do is win games, and make the tournament consistently.

I think we are just comfortable with Bruce. But I don't think anyone would be opposed to a proven coach taking the reins. And I think a proven coach would take this job.

I think Hart will do a better job than Hamilton did at finding a coach. He sure did a good job with Butch.

I appreciate the footnote, but can we merge this. I could go into things like facilities, money, and opportunity. However, you are right. The next crappy hire is to be blamed on the fans. Not the POS coach we have now. This thread is like calling a timeout with 2.4.

that has yet to be proven. Im all in on Butch but he can recruit all the top talent he wants but if he don't win he will be fired in another 3-4 years.

The talent that CCM is leaving behind could possibly see 1 - 2 more years without a tourney. With Pearl still unemployed, the fans will never be on board. We were top 5 in attendance every year under Pearl. We will be 15+ this year. Wait until you see next years numbers if Pearl is not hired.

God, it really is hard to argue this.

Sure some coaches might be scared. But if a coach is a coward and afraid of high standards we don't him anyways do we? I think most coaches are competitive ego driven to believe they can succeed with the resources they would have at their disposal including those passionate fans that demand success.

Speaking as a Gator fan who disliked Pearl, the SEC and UT could REALLY benefit from him returning to Knoxville. For reasons I just do not understand UT under Martin, and the SEC in general have really kind of fallen into a state of conference wide mediocrity. A Bruce Pearl hiring at UT would bring some real buzz back to your program and our conference.

There's plenty of hires that could be made that the attendance wouldn't suffer. Pearl is far from the only option(and I doubt he really is one)

That is exactly why I dispute folks that say Mike Slive won't allow Bruce Pearl back into the SEC. Slive knows how many televised games Bruce got us in including dancing year in and year out.

A 3 year old Eskimo could do a better job of hiring than Hamilton!

People want a proven coach and just for fun, lets say UT is willing to pay for a good coach....what "good" coach wants to be in someone's shadow like Pearl? I would imagine very few would. The Pearl love could bite UT fans in the rear in the long run. I would guess Boston College comes calling for Pearl. Best case scenario for Dave Hart (if he doesn't or isn't allowed to hire Pearl) is for BC or a similar school scopes Pearl up before Martin is canned and is completely off the table....

Truth is, UT won't throw the kind of dollars at a top tier coach and fans will likely not support someone not named Pearl unless it is a top name coach. The only issue is, Hart is in a world of hurt because no one is hiring Pearl until his show cause is up which leaves him on the market typically after 90 percent of the coaching hires are made.

It would not be impossible but Hart will not be committed to hiring a good, proven coach.

Just watch the Cinderalla team in the NCAA from the mid majors and he will hire that coach.

Buzz had a good tourney run at Tulsa and we hired him. Bruce had a good tourney run at Milwaukee and we hired him. Martin had a good tourney run at Missouri State and we hired him.

Hart will hire a slightly successful coach at a low price.

He will not hire anyone who will garner more attention than the football team and he will not pay them equal to or more than the football coach.

Martin did not have a good tourney run, he has never head coached a tourney team.
