There's about 320 D1 universities that would take 6 Final Fours and 1 championship from their coach.

Four F4's at UK (6 total, maybe what you're saying). But the point still stands. $7m is crazy money regardless but Cal is deserving of being a top 2-3 paid coach.

Yes, 6 total. 4 at UK and a natty pretty much lock Cal up as either the 2nd or 3rd best coach in the NCAA. I'm torn on where and how I'd rank Izzo and Cal, but they're undoubtedly behind some guy named K.

Izzo definitely does it with less talent than Cal. He recruits solidly but he might be unstoppable with the #1 class every year.

Izzo is a better coach than Cal. Not saying Cal is a bad coach at all, he's great. I don't like him all that much, but he's a good coach. Cal has won a National Title, he also won that one title with a freak once in a lifetime player.

Doesn't take away that he got said player and won. Izzo dies more worth less because he can't recruit like Cal. Cal still vastly improves his true freshmen into quality teams year in and year out. Izzo doesn't recruit the top players and in the NCAA, that's part of coaching.

We're keeping TCHFCATUTK right now solely based on his ability to recruit.

I know that recruiting is part of coaching, and that's part of Cal's appeal. You can't question that.

You and I should probably stick to discussing basketball because I couldn't disagree more with your last sentence.

Izzo is better. But they have different styles in recruiting, development, etc. Cal has been somewhat consistent in putting new teams together. Izzo is good at recruiting a few good players every season and keeping them around turning them into solid players. Next season he has four top 50 players coming in. He'll do well, but it'll be interesting to see how he uses them. I know a lot of MSU fans got mad when he sat Davis down this season (freshman iirc) and they lost to MTSU.

I agree. It's a difference in styles and philosophy. I think Izzo is perfect for East Lansing and MSU.

Well now I'm curious enough that I have to ask.

I'm not saying TCHFCATUTK "can't" coach, but it is certainly still a giant question mark. So I do wonder what you disagree so heavily with.

If the NCAA adopted a policy similar to MLB where players could either declare for the NBA right out of HS or be forced to spend at least three years in college, I really wonder how Cal's players coming out of UK would look with three years of his tutelage. I think the difference between he and Izzo on actually coaching players up wouldn't be as wide spread as some here think.

I don't agree that it's the only reason he is still here. We were a 9-4 team last year that went 9-4 and probably should've been 10-2 or 11-1. This pre-season we should be a playoff contender, if we re not or not close to it then I will agree with you.

The sad thing is, UK has had one of the most dominant runs in ncaa history, and can walk away with only one title. Izzo, K, Self, Williams may be, and probably are, better coaches. But there's no excuse for not winning 2 or 3 titles in 7 years. We were good enough.

Regarding Calipari Kentucky Fans were first like:

He is too dirty to ever lead our program. It would be low class to hire him.

Then like:

Crap we fired Tubby and this new guys sucks. What the hell go get the guy. Never mind what we used to say about the bastard.

But ended up being mostly like:

Wait he has been barely more succesful then Tubby. Man I hope Cal didn't cheat again.

Josh Harrellson says hi. I agree, it's close between the two. I'd probably take Izzo as an in-game coach, but not by a ton.
