He did coach at Michigan State... That couldn't have helped his win percentage.

His best years were at LSU when he almost won 75% of his games, going 30-12 (71%) vs the SEC, 5-3 (62%) against OOC BCS schools, and 13-1 (92%) against non BCS schools.

the sooner we all face the reality that he's going to build a team at Bama, the sooner we can come to grips with te reality that Phil's best days are behind him and hire Gary Patterson

Post of the year. Couldn't have said it better. Do some of you really believe what you're trying to spin? The simple reality is that CPF has built his career ENTIRELY around 2 things: 98 NC and a 7-1 record vs. Dubose and Shula. Period. The NC is almost a decade old, and now Bama has finally figured it out and hired a TRUE HC. He will win. He will win big in about 3 years. He will beat CPF more than CPF beats him. Florida, Bama, UGA, SC, etc, etc, are all moving forward in a quick fashion. The Tennessee program is standing still at best, and is entering a precarious position of mired in mediocrity that the next HC will have to pull out of. It is what it is.

I, for one, can't wait for the season to start. First, so we can have a great year and second, so people on this board will quit hyping Saban and Spurrier.

I'm tired of the "it's going to be a long season for the vols" followed by "Saban is going to win big at bama" and "Spurrier is the greatest coach in the SEC"...

Vols beat both - easily.

Who's trying to spin anything? What does this have anything to do with Fulmer?

This entire thread is based on a spin of Saban's overall winning pct. Saying he's only won 64% makes him an overated coach is spin. He took over an LSU program that had had EIGHT losing seasons out of 11 prior to his arrival. He won 2 SEC titles, 1 NC, 75% of his games, and never won less than eight. not bad, considering the situation he found when he got there. There is simply no way to argue around what he did in only 5 years there.

Now, imagine what he's capable of at Bama. If you can't or just refuse, well just sit back and watch I guess. We can try to pretend it won't happen, or we can ramp up. I think I know which will happen.

He's still not worth the hype. He may be a good coach, but he's no Pete Carroll. He's in line with Fulmer. If all Fulmer can hang his hat on is '98, then all Saban can hang his hat on is 2003. All of his other years at LSU were mediocre, exactly the same type of winning seasons we're upset with Fulmer about.

Had Saban stayed at LSU, the Tigers would have had an undefeated season in one of the past two years. If he were still there, I'd probably bet thousands on them to win the SEC in 2007. They've been the SEC's most talented team the past two years, but bumbling Les Miles can't even manage to weather Hurricane Clausen.

Additionally, Saban won the SEC twice while coaching at LSU less than half the time Fulmer has coached UT. The program Saban inherited was in far, far worse shape than the one Fulmer had fall in his lap. Comparing the situations is absurd.

Saban coached in the NFL. Even after his recent transgression against the league I guarantee every NFL owner would hire Saban before hiring Phil. I honestly think Fulmer might be the man to bring home the first 0-16 record in the NFL.

He had a couple of good years. Les Miles, no matter how bad of a coach he is, has kept them more consistent than Saban. They'll always have talent. Even Gerry Dinardo took them from losers to winners.

I added more to that post. You should read it.

Also, I doubt Saban ever lost to a 5-6 team while at LSU.

I would guarantee it. Fulmer's not a great coach anymore. But he did win 2 SEC Championships in his first 6 seasons.
