Wow USC's ESD Recruiting

Completely crazy to see USC's recruiting class ranked as DEAD LAST in the Pac-12. I can't see how Helton survives. He could be the greatest game day coach in the country, but you can't win at USC when your recruiting class is ranked behind Western Michigan, North Texas, and Toledo.

Meanwhile, Chip Kelly at UCLA, who we previously made fun of for his poor recruiting, has seemingly turned things around.

They managed to keep their OC atleast, huge gamble on his part for staying imo.

Not much of a gamble on Graham's part. At worst he will land a job on the Pirate's staff...if he doesn't get a Mid-Major HC job in the ArkLaTex region.

Did falling on his face in Knoxville and LA kill Kiffin's career? At worst it just derailed/delaid it.

They will probably fill up their class but 85% of the top 250 players already signed...they are looking at 3 star talent now..this was a school that used to be 5 Star U

And there's no reason they shouldn't still be. Great tradition, facilities, warm weather, plenty of hot women, only play 1 or 2 tough games per year. this class will undoubtedly be the final nail in the coffin for Helton.

It helps that Range Rover doesent have a dealer out side the coliseum anymore

Sounds like Helton expected to be fired and just quit recruiting. That’s the kiss of death in coaching. It’s an unwritten rule that every coach keeps working like they know they’ll be there for 10 years. He’ll never get another HC job with this. Is it possible that his buyout goes way down first of the year?

Maybe, I just think staying in a situation that will most likely be a blemish on your record is quite a gamble. We've seen instances of coaches who lose their shine and never get that shot at a HC, also seen the opposite where terrible HCs keep getting jobs so who knows. I would also argue Kiffin didnt fall on his face here, he left as dramatically as possible but what he did prior to that was pretty good.

I actually think they are lining up Harrell to replace Helton. 3 of USC's first 5 games next year are Bama, ND, and Oregon. If Helton drops to 2-3 then I suspect they fire him, make Harrell the interim and give him 7 games to prove he is the next Lincoln Riley.
