USC has to be the most underachieving football program based on their recruiting rankings for the last 10+ years:

2011: 3rd (1st Pac 12)
2012: 8th (2nd Pac 12)
2013: 13th (2nd Pac 12)
2014: 10th (1st Pac 12)
2015: 2nd (1st Pac 12)
2016: 10th (1st Pac 12)
2017: 4th (1st Pac 12)
2018: 4th (1st Pac 12)
2019: 20th (3rd Pac 12)

They have 1 conference title to show for it even though they've been 1st or 2nd in the conference in recruiting until last year.

Maybe, I just think staying in a situation that will most likely be a blemish on your record is quite a gamble. We've seen instances of coaches who lose their shine and never get that shot at a HC, also seen the opposite where terrible HCs keep getting jobs so who knows. I would also argue Kiffin didnt fall on his face here, he left as dramatically as possible but what he did prior to that was pretty good.
The sheer numbers from Kedan Slovis doesn’t scream “blemish”. He’s a hot property now.

And there's no reason they shouldn't still be. Great tradition, facilities, warm weather, plenty of hot women, only play 1 or 2 tough games per year. this class will undoubtedly be the final nail in the coffin for Helton.
Are thier facilities top notch? I seem to remember hearing thier facilities was second rate. Never thought i would say this when he was fired, but i think if they kept Kiffin they would be in a better place right now.

I actually attended USC for a couple of semesters, consider them home and second only to UT as far as my fan support. Recruits in Cali know Helton is a dead man walking. Why the AD renewed him this year is beyond human understanding. The facilities are not the best or top notch especially if you compare them to Oregon for example, that Nike money pays dividends. SC will be back, it's just not gonna happen with Helton. SC has more money than most programs and can do with it what they will. I think the new AD has to move big next year for a name or he's gone as well. Time will tell.

SC is a school with the right coach, they're back in the hunt quick. They just have to minimize damage now and not fall too far behind in recruiting so the next guy has something to work with and not have to do a full roster flip.

I honestly can not see how anybody would have a hard time recruiting to a traditional powerhouse like USC...Just mind boggling...I can think of worse things than spending 3-4 years in Los Angeles....Great weather, hot girls, the beach...Damn

I'm assuming it's because recruits know he's basically a dead man walking, but still.

USC "once upon a time" dominated the PAC-12. That's just no longer the case. Example: Over the last 25 years Oregon is 11-7 vs USC and over the 25 years prior to that USC was 17-4 vs Oregon. Point is the recruits coming out of high school these days they don't remember any time where USC was dominate in the PAC-12 vs Oregon. I haven't looked at how they ave done VS other PAC-12 schools.

The violations committed under Pete Carroll and the embarrassment that Steve Sarkisian's drunken tenure brought, seems to have been enough to change their priorities for athletics. Clay Helton is running a clean program and that is all the administration cares about right now.

They were also heavily involved in the college admissions scandal... they just want to restore their integrity at the moment. That is understandable.
