Pro wrestler Rhyno to become Michigan legislator
DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) - Professional wrestler Rhyno has won a seat in the Michigan Legislature.
Dearborn Republican Terrance Guido Gerin defeated Democrat Abdullah Hammoud, a 26-year-old health care consultant, in Tuesdays election for an open state House district. The 41-year-old, who prefers the name Rhino, currently appears on World Wrestling Entertainments Smackdown Live.
His campaign website says Gerin is a politician by day and a professional wrestler by night. He says he believes in limited government and will focus on fixing Michigans crumbling roads and boosting state revenue-sharing to cities such as Dearborn.
He urged voters in the Democratic-heavy district east of Detroit to be a Rhino-Democrat.
Gerin will be paid nearly $72,000 a year as a lawmaker.
