WWE Thread III

A lot of people have a misconception of the purpose of "developmental," specifically NXT. They aren't teaching these guys how to wrestle, per se (Eva Marie notwithstanding), rather it's more teaching how to conform to a "WWE style" match, as mentioned above. Especially because of their live TV product, it's important, as noted above, to be able to wrestle a match that will convey appropriately to live TV, not just the stadium crowd.

I'm actually glad to see Cena back. I don't want him to immediately win the US title from Rusev though.

I'm torn on this. On one hand, I agree with you that I don't want Cena to immediately win back the US title. I'd like to see Rusev get built back up again and be a big heel.

On the other hand, I'd love to see the US open challenges again that we got when Cena had the belt. Those matches were great. Cena made the US belt important.

If another wrestler was given 12-15 minutes every single raw, against talent like Cesaro, Owens, and Zayne, with half a dozen finishers and 10+ late kick outs, they would elevate the belt as well.

It's tough to elevate the belt when you aren't even booked to wrestle on Tv and instead featured on pre shows.

I enjoyed the open challenge matches as well. The only problem was that after the first few weeks of it, it was obvious Cena wasn't losing to anyone on free tv. I wanted some unpredictability in those challenges. To the point about building the belt, I've said in the past about Cena's reign being a false build of the title. I think those midcard belts need to have a feud where the belt gets traded back and forth. Edge was like a 7 time IC champion and all of those reigns are over about a year and a half span.

there was nothing false about it. Cena elevated it like very few could and then Rusev's injuries coupled with typical sh***y creative writing afterwards plummeted the title back to below mediocrity. Rusev is established enough that he can give it momentum, but it won't come via three months of squashes.

Rusev already had it for a while and did nothing but squash matches and beat Jack Swagger. Definitely want the Cena open challenge every week.

Agreed.

When Cena held it it felt real, but 2 weeks after he dropped it to Del Rio it felt meaningless again. Most of that is on the booking. They had a returning guy who no one expected come back and they did absolutely nothing with him (worse than nothing considering how bad the MexAmerica thing was). All I'm really saying is the belt doesn't necessarily need Cena or any established main eventer if the story and feud has thought put into it. Hopefully the US belt being the #2 belt on its own show will help it a lot.

I might be a little biased, but that's their best opening segment in months. WWE clearly knows their demographics, but their appreciation and goodwill towards the military by all means seems sincere and real.

I don't want to say I'm truly entertained but I like this change up of Shane/Steph. Like they actually act like if real siblings were in co charge. A lot better than HHh/Steph

With all the love she is getting tonight, it's surprising that Steph went undrafted in our WWE Women's Draft a few weeks ago.
