why don't we cut it all by 100%? foreign countries won't attack us if we just talk out our problems.

because that's stupid

cut back on what we spend overseas and instead use it on actual defense of our country

Ahhh, the domestic approach. Wouldn't it have been nice if we had taken that at any opportunity in the past 20 years?

I feel like giving you a standing ovation. Take care of ourselves first. Then worry about others.

oddly enough it took the most recent wars to change my mind about the whole thing. I'm guessing that wasn't the GOP's intent in 2001

retirement in the US has become some sort of glorified Euro model of elderly freeloading. Screw that. Retire if can afford it. Otherwise, work and you'll live longer.

that's the main reason people i work with aren't retiring. Many retirees that were working with us pass away within a couple of years.

Just kill everyone over 70.

Problem solved.

how about old people pay for stuff themselves, and stop taking money from me and ill worry about me and my family in the future. Deal?

At this point, i'd kill for seperate accounts where I can track my SS and Medicare money that I pay into and when I need it, I can deploy it as I see fit

Back to the topic, anyone retiring from this year forward will get less from social security than they paid in. Sounds like a pretty poor investment if you ask me.

New retirees receiving less in Social Security than they paid in, marking historic shift | Fox News

Surprised Romney has not yet suggested that those making over a million dollars a year should get triple SS payments when they retire, since they will surely use it to hire the rest of us as domestic help.

Funny this thread pops up this morning. I was just talking about this with my best friend's dad last night. I was telling him about my immense hatred for his generation (the backside of the Baby Boomers) and my parent's generation (front end of the Baby Boomers). He tried to make the case that his generation was getting screwed the most because they have been paying into the system their whole lives and will not likely see it throughout any retirement. Our retort (my friend and myself) was that their generation was and still is the major political voting block driving the madness.

We all agreed that nothing major will happen until either my generation (the 20's) reach their 30's or total financial catastrophe happens; whichever happens first.

Although he thinks we are doomed either way because we keep "breeding" liberals faster than conservatives. I found that funny.

What is y'all's take? Anyone b*tch at their family member's generations?

Okay, that means no SS payments to anyone currently retired since its your dollars going in now which are paying their benefits. Have fun driving to work with all the homeless 80 year olds clogging the streets.

Wow.

That comment really makes me think my perception of what this is all about is just totally wrong.

Not.

Who bears the responsibility for keeping the promise made to those who have worked and paid in ?

did I not receive the same promise? Think I'll receive 100% back?

Are current recipients receiving more than they paid in?

this is not a retirement account. They should have planned ahead

I've been paying in for 32 years. For the last 15 years I put in the max.
