Wow, Bruce was down by about 10% when I voted, now he's +5%.

Lofton and Davis were virtually tied as well with Lofton now holding a +11% edge.

UNC lost several seniors, a couple of which were very good, but none of which were their very best players anyway. They lost several juniors and a freshman, all of which were their best players. They lost their top 7 scorers (which has NEVER happened to ANY team in the entire history of the ACC conference). Their highest scorer returning from last year's team averaged just over 3 points per game last year. Also, they weren't ranked in the pre-season or for a good portion of the regular season. Other than that and your comment that Roy Williams is way overrated, though, your facts are 100% accurate. :shakehead:

now, roy is certainly not overrated, but, tennessee was certainly not ranked in the preseason either. marvin williams was a freshman and number 5 (i believe) on your vaulted top 7 scorers. My point is, northcarolina will always recruit talented freshmen, and have a strong bench. they had 6 guys averaging double figures last year for god's sake, and yes, that means that they had someone off the bench averaging 10+. they will always recruit some of the most talented players and honestly bruce pearl has done more with A LOT less. Bruce Pearl would deserve consideration if tennessee had just barely cracked the top 25, but we are talking top 15 and a top 3 seed (probably) in the ncaa's. i like roy as much as the next guy, but not for coach of the year this year

Hard to say with Roy vs Bruce.

Bruce turned a program around and got every player on the team to improve.

Roy started with mostly new players albeit highly recruited talent.

What Roy Williams has done is very strong and his team is peaking at the right time while the Vols have slowed a bit. On the other hand, UNC still has more talent then UT (eventhough they are freshmen) and the ACC is way down relatively speaking this year while the SEC is slightly down relatively speaking.

My guess is that it will come down to timing and that RW gets the edge for being higher ranked now.

A little more fuel for the BP fire:

UT has still has a higher RPI 6 vs 8 and strength of schedule 3rd vs 10th.

Shows how down the ACC is this year.

For comparison the SEC has 1 top 10 (UT), 2 top 20 (add LSU at #11,), 3 top 25 (UF at #23), 4 top 40 (UK) and 6 top 50 (Ala and Ark).

ACC has 2 top 10 (Duke, UNC), 2 top 20, 2 top 25, 2 top 30 - the third team enters at #33 (BC) and 4th at #40 (NCSt). Finally, their 5th team makes the top 50 at #47 with Maryland.

UT's conference losses were all against teams with RPI's in the top 50. While 2 of UNC's were (Duke, BC) and 2 were not in the top 50 (Virginia - 76; Miami - 80).

Non conference losses UT - Memphis (#4 rpi), Okla St (#90 rpi), UNC - Illinois (#9 rpi), USC (#112 rpi).

they lost a lot, but they probably have 4 times the talent in freshman then we have now. i hate to say it but that is true. the big schools keep getting it in. i dont see why no one thought unc was going to be good. in basketball, you can win a good junk of games with freshman. if you told me unc would be here i wouldnt be surprised.

i remember people saying (including me) nit would be a huge acomplishment.
Very true. Williams lost an unbelievable amount of talent, but the talent on this years UNC team is head and shoulders above the talent level currently filling UT's roster. UNC was not expected to do what they have done because most of us had no clue the talent level on that team would be what it is. IMO UNC's success is much more a product of talent that William's "great" coaching abilities. This award seems to be much like the Heisman.....the best man usually does not win.
