If I were on my PC i'd post the Mickey Mantle scene from Bronx Tale.

Derek Jeter or anyone else doesn't owe me, you, or anyone else ****.

Why? He's not a rookie showing up to take photos of other players and getting autographs.

And for the record, it doesn't matter the team or the player for me to feel this way.

I personally just think it shows the player thinks he is above the game. Like you said it doesn't mattter which player or team it was. If a Braves player like B-Mac, i would still feel the same way..... I see where you are coming from with your stance. Just different views on it.

If Jeter wanted to be above the game he could have shown up and received a 3000 hit suckfest.

They are above the game because they care less about personal glory and exhibition games than a healthy chase for the World Series?

Did you get everything you wanted growing up? Do you still feel entitled and that all your personal desires should be sated?

4-5 players that did not show up the the All-Star game are Yankee players. ARod gets an excuse for having surgery. It's just really pitiful in my opinion the other players didn't even show up!

I hate the Yankee's, A bunch of prim maddonas!!!!!!

I would come up with every possible excuse not to go, personally.

3 days off or a meaningless exhibition? Especially without having back to back days off from March ---> Early October.

I can see why the players did it, and I can understand why any fan would be upset.

I like the NHL's stance. If you miss the game because you're legitimately hurt, you're still expected to show up if you're physically able to. Obviously, having surgery during the All-Star break is an extenuating circumstance.

But if you're hurt and skip out entirely or decline to play even though you're healthy, you're suspended. And in a league with greater competitive balance than ever before, the possibility of costing your team in the standings is quite an incentive to show up. The purpose of the game is split between the players and the fans; the players have a chance to either rest (if not selected) or be around the best in the game (if selected), and the fans get a hell of a good show.

All Star game doesn't seem to hold the interest it did years ago. Not for players and not for many fans. Listened to a local sports guy who has been covering the All Stars game for 35 years. He said that he covered Women's Soccer this year instead. Was the first All Star game he didn't cover. He asked, "What does that tell you about it"?

Ratings seem to support that as well. 2nd straight year with a decent decline
