A hearty Atlanta welcome to all you Yanqui frontrunners! May you get the trots from the Varsity, have your wallet lifted at the World of Coke, sit in traffic for two or three hours, and get hassled by the Atlanta cops for something insignificant. Enjoy your stay!

Been down to the Dirty several times, and that's not all far from a normal day down there.

Honesty compels me to point out that I'd be saying exactly the same thing about your pink-hat frontrunning brethren if there were a thread about that series. Your fanbase has become even more obnoxious than the Yankee-lovers in recent years.

I don't really see it too much, but i know what you mean. In my area most baseball fans are set in their ways, probably 45/45/10 Sox, Yanks, and Mets. The wave of pink hats has gone down since the 04 run, thank goodness. I'm sure elsewhere theres plenty of obnoxious pretenders though.

Sounds like a bitter person that can't get out of Atlanta. Go Yanks!

It's athread about being unable to travel to NYC this year to see a game... I went to Yanks Stadium the 2 past years but with the lovely economy I'm unable to do that this year.... So a 3 hour drive to Atlanta and a free night in a Marriott makes a whole lot more sense this year...... Pointless series or not I could care less since I'm a baseball fan.

How I became one...

First ever game I saw live in person was in the old Yankees Stadium(subway ride from Times Square). The excitement in the air was similar but not equal to a football Saturday in KTown. Since then I was SOLD! I at least go to see one game per year (I wish more). Obviously I prefer to go to NYC to see them play, but it different times now. I also think it's crazy that all southern boys are required to pull for a regional team.

Nobody's required to do anything. But it's just funny how all the southern guys who chose not to support one of the regional teams never picked the Orioles or the Indians or the Blue Jays or the Indians or Pirates or the Brewers; it's always the Yankees or the Red Sox or the Mets, isn't it? And then the same guys never root for the Browns or the Saints or the Bills or the Vikings; their NFL team is always the Cowboys or the Steelers or somebody like that.

"I'm not a bandwaggoner -- I just really liked their helmets when I was a kid! It had nothing to do with those championships they were winning!"

Seeing how I was never an MLB fan until I yet to my first game in 2006. No it's not about all the championships. I'm honest in saying that I never watched an entire baseball game (MLB that is) until saw one in person. Also I've learned this is a battle that a person in my situation can never win no matter what is say. So basically I'm wasting my time writing this....

When you pick a team out of a hat, and that team just happens to be the New York Yankees and their 26 championships, then no, this is not an argument that you're ever going to win. Are you already one of these guys who, three years into being a fan, talks about how "we" signed Sabathia and Teixeira, and things have really turned around since "we" got A-Rod back?

I'm sure I've said "WE" when talking about the Yankees, and if so whats the big deal? It's human nature to say that. Everyone uses that term everyday when talking about a team they pull for, and others read deep into like it's a cardinal sin. Unless you grew up there, live there, worked there, gave birth to your first child there, etc, etc, etc.... You have not right using that term. (LMAO)

I know I aided in continuing this conversation, but what does it really matter to another person what team another person pulls for?

Anywho.... It's time to go home and watch Joba pitch!

There's nothing wrong in general with saying "we" about your sports teams, but going from not caring about MLB at all in 2006 to "We won tonight!" in three years, where the "we" refers to the most successful franchise in North American sports history, is pretty much the very definition of frontrunning. I guess you're comfortable with that.

i have to disagree with this, i'm from the south and the first MLB game i ever went to that i fully and truely remember was in atlanta, also because we lived so far out into the country that when we were even able to get cable '88 or so, all we could get were the braves, and i've followed them ever since. BUT, i also was a fan of the red sox, pirates, reds and orioles for various reason. the minor league team around here was with the red sox for many years and that got me into them by watching players that i saw play live make it to the majors. i grew up with family in pittsburgh and ohio and attented a few games there when i was a kid. my father being from pittsburgh got me into the steelers before i even knew any better. but now that they've won the super bowl people that follow lesser teams always try to make themselves feel better by trying to rag on someone elses favorites in any way they can. i equate that to people that are insecure in themselves and try to turn the attention away from themselves by ragging on someone else. i really like no sports team from my area, which up until recent years weren't many. i live in north carolina and i refuse to pull for the panthers just because they're the local team, i feel the same way about the former hornets and the bobcats. everyone has different reasons for liking the team they do and any time it's not the local team, they get accused of being bandwagoners. you mentioned the indians and blue jays, if we were having this conversation 10 years ago or so when those teams were playing well and winning championships, you would be using the names of the teams that are doing well now.

i have to agree with the "we" part of it, it annoys me to no end. one should only be allowed to use "we" when talking about any major or minor sports team if they actually play for them. it has nothing to do with how long you've been a fan.

i think that anyone at whatever point in their life starts to watch a professional/college sport and develops a favorite, they do so by a variety of options. what is readily availble to watch and follow on tv, which generally are your teams that are more successful either by espn showing them all the time or on the regional sports channels you get with sat. the brewers don't have a regional sports channel that i can watch and follow their games, so what would make me want to make them my "team"? there is also an experience that can captivate you so much that it makes you want to follow that team, such as with smokey. 5 years ago, you couldn't find a phillies fan but now they're all over the place. yes half of these just started to like them last year when they won but don't assume all phillies fans just jumped on just to argue about it. and really when ones chooses a team to follow, does anyone intentionally choose a career losing franchise? face it, true sports fans live through their teams and feel deep disappointment when their teams lose, especially the big games. why is someone going to constantly watch a losing team and suffer that disappointment daily? the hurricanes play two hours from where i live but i am not going to start to like them just because they moved here. i've been a red wings fan since 2001 when i went to detroit and watched a game and yes they're winning now but i've never denyed them being "my" team when they didn't win the stanley cup.

I guess I should have asked permission first before liking baseball or a certain team? Last time I checked we are in American.

I played basketball, football, and God only knows why soccer (which I can not stand to watch a game of now) in school. For some reason I had a dislike for baseball at the time. But once I watched a game in person I gained the patience for it. Also look at their past 2-3 seasons.... How could I be consider a front-runner with those years. I personally could care less about what happen in the past. Seeing how I didn't follow them or watch a game. Tons of overpaid talent with lousy results.

Also feel free with tagging me with any title you please. I could honestly careless, and I'm very comfortable with that statement. :good!:
