Yardbird vs. Illini

But what I really want to know is why Illinois is being given so much time to substitute. That has not been the case all year.

They are giving them like 10 to 20 seconds to substitute.

Got to fix that rule. That’s what we got flagged for.

Yea we got screwed at Georgia for it. The ref left before our guy got off the field, they ran a play, then went and reviewed the play before and threw a flag.

Agree - they are going to have to clarify how much time is enough and is it when the first wave of the subs get to the line of scrimmage or the second, third or fourth wave of subs from the defense.

I am all for giving he defense time to substitute - but Illinois is using it to obtain penalties and force time outs.

Just saying if they did that against us - I would be livid and so would our coach!

That’s the risk you run by subbing. Same when the defense does it and the offense doesn’t. I remember last year when TCU pulled out a last second win over Baylor because they rushed the fg team out with just a few seconds left. In theory Baylor should’ve slow rolled it and subbed slower.

So you think if the offense subs, the defense should be able to take the entire time and make the other team take a time out or penalty?

Bielemia has a player that might be hurt and his response is to taunt another coach that can’t speak coherently. What a way to go thru life

What Illinois seems to be doing is to wait for several seconds (like greater than 5 but less than 10) after SC substitutes and then starts their substitution process. The refs then are giving them additional time to complete the substitution so effectively they are getting close to 20 seconds to substitute.

The rule needs clarified and fixed.

Bowl games don’t tell us much with all the opt outs and various motivations.

Fair, but it hasn't been nearly this glaring in years past. 1-4 against the B1G with Tennessee being the lone truly outmatched team (on paper) doesn't make me feel confident about the SEC's relative strength this season.
