Yemi Passes the Test

Yemi played his heart out last night and it showed. Give him another year of practice under Coach Zo and this kid could be an opposing teams nightmare.

This was the right game to give Yemi a chance and give Maymon some much needed rest. He seems to be catching on. Hope he grows a lot this summer

Yemi stepped up and knew where to be and what to do. Good game from Yemi.

Sidenote: Not to hijack the thread, but when Woolridge was out there it really showed why he hasn't been playing. He had no stinkin' clue where to be in our halfcourt offense. He ended up all over the place and while he -may- have had a few productive moments, it just wasn't what the offense called for from what I remember.

I was impressed with Yemi last night. After he settled down, I saw him draw at least two charges, block or change multiple shots, get some hustle balls, and generally play the tough scrappy game that Coach Martin loves so much.

That said, this article called him a hero? Hero is a pretty strong word. Impressive, developing, solid, scrappy, etc...these are much more appropriate words than hero. I think he is going to become a strong contributor in his time at Tennessee, but we don't do him any favors by erecting statues and exaggerating. He played a great game, I'm proud of him, his teammates and coaches are proud, and he has the potential to be good. Let's be optimistic, but not silly.

He has a knack for where the rebound is going and he goes to get it.

2 skills that Hall doesn't have.

And that's one of those things that really just can't be taught. Maymon has it as well, I'm glad to see Yemi progressing.

As you said junior year he could really be something.

Yemi played well and has a lot of upside. Where was Miller? We played the game without our 2 big starters, Maymon and Hall. Yemi will be a stud for the next 3 years.

We got out hustled last night on the defensive boards. This opponent should not have gotten 3 to 4 shots off of misses. Cuonzo needs to kick some booty to get our bigs to block out and rebound.

yeah, i cringe whenever woolridge gets up to come into the game. he's useless, glad when he's gone.

Yemi still needs to work on his defense, mainly just not getting lost. He needs major work on offense. Just like Kenny, he doesn't know what to do when he gets the ball.

Good news is he is a freshman, plenty of time to put in work.

I think the writing is on the wall for Miller. Without Maymon and Hall, Yemi plays most of the game, we play a lot of 4 guard lineups, and Miller gets maybe a couple minutes. I'll be surprised if he's on the team next year.

2 things:

Yemi hits his free throws, and Woolridge is a black hole when the ball comes to him. The ball is going up.

I posted this last night on the postgame thread.

Woolridge played only 9 minutes yet shot 6 times. He was 1-6. He did have 7 boards.

Meanwhile,

Golden played 34 and shot 7 times.
Stokes played 29 and shot 7 times.
Tatum played 32 and shot 5 times.
Yemi played 16 and shot 5 times.
McBee played 27 and shot 5 times.
Richardson played 24 and shot 9 times.
McRae played 27 and shot 6 times.

to expect him to get much taller. But he can be an effective rebounder at 6-7, especially if he puts on more weight. Not really a good comparison to Ezeli, other than both are from Africa.

I hate to pick on the guy, but the posts knocking Woolridge are spot on. He flat out sucks. I.cringed every time he had the ball last night.

He had a good showing against Kansas two years ago, and has done nothing but prove he belongs on the bench since then.

If yemi puts on some weight he could be a huge factor. Now about Woolridge. I would rather see Summit in the game. You know he has a basketball IQ at least. And not to throw Stokes under the bus. But his defense is that of an 8th grader going against a Senior in high school. He also just stands there a lot. And on offense he gets to many shots blocked. Does he not have a vertical. Seems he doesnt get off the floor that well on his shots.

He's not Costanza.

I just don't think he's really 6-9. Standing next to Ezelli, he looked at least 4 inches shorter to me. Now, maybe Ezelli is 7-1.

Well stokes is listed at 6'8" and is supposedly actually 6'9" and yemi appears taller in person to me.

Definitely not 6'7" though.

When Yemi learns to play basketball over this offseason he can provide post depth (what's that?!) behind Stokes and Maymon. That would be really good for our season next year.
