Tell me you never played a down of football without telling me you never played a down of football. Bama never played any sort of a prevent D last night. They mixed coverages all night disguised blitz’s and brought 5-6 and even 7 men in every quarter. They played man over most of the night. Never once did they show any prevent. You don’t have a clue about football or defense if that’s what you saw

And as I've said before, those seeking to make Nico, Volgod 2.0 ignore the fact he is still a relatively inexperienced, frosh/soph QB. AND, we will get reminded of that as the season progresses. Talented as he is, this is the SEC. He has yet to endure a season that's yet to come. No question, how well the OL holds up,
will determine how well Nico holds. This will also be where those of us who mention his still lanky and thin frame will be a factor as well. Until then--the game is afoot. GO VOLS!!!

Nico cannot shine if his blindside is wide open with Davis there. Against super talented teams like Bama and Ga, they will keep him scrambling. Granted, Nico is exceptional and will make plays anyway but it will not be the romp unless he gets some protection from our tackles (because almost no one makes it though our center lol)

Heard is the difference maker on the OL at this point. Huge dropoff after him at LT. Need him fully healthy to maximize the potential of this offense and protect Nico's blindside
Johnson should get more of an opportunity than Davis I would think at LT from here on out. He played well against OU.

They were playing soft coverage and their DBs were a bunch of freshman who just completely blew some coverages.

Ole Miss hasn’t lost to Ky in Oxford since 1976.
That’s a wrong stat. They didn’t even play in 76. They haven’t lost in MS since 1964 cause the game was played in Jackson. They had won 6 in a row in Oxford prior to yesterday, not quite on the level of 36 out of 39 period.

Bama stopped blitzing Beck is what happened. He was gun shy and for good reason. They were swarming him and then they just stopped in the 2nd half.

Sure is funny though that the line came into play.

4th quarter on the last few drives they were off the WRs. Herbstreit even pointed it out.
Go back and watch. Only time the were not up tight is when they dropped off in zone. The only ones that played off was a safety or linebacker that had to come down in man. Every catch or drop was pretty much contested last night

I’d love to see us get a big enough lead against Arky and UF that Johnson could get maybe 15-20 snaps in each and Bennett Warren and Jesse Perry could get 10 or so. Davis is a solid backup at RT but completely inadequate at left.

Thanks. It appears we're saying the same thing using different words. ;)

In the SEC, trench warfare is the final determinant.
We will only go as far as our limitations on the offensive line can take us.
Our 5 starters plus Davis and Johnson have to get and stay healthy.
Otherwise, there are some behemoth defensive linemen that can do what OU did to Nico.
Two strip search fumbles to Bama, UGA, and maybe even UK could be deadly.
Our dline will do its share of damage too, of course.
And our back 7 on defense has been surprisingly stout so far.
Admittedly against 4 relatively weak offenses.
Facing a true running QB in Fayetteville will be telling. His legs are much scarier than his arm, however.

If our oline could just be a little above average, I think we have enough talent at all other offensive positions to put up some big numbers against most of our final 8 regular season opponents.

I still think we end up 10-2, losing to Bama and UGA and we are the 4th team out of 4 SEC teams that makes the playoffs.
Hard to argue with this thinking based on what we’ve seen so far.

We should just forfeit the playoff since we're going to lose twice eventually to one of them.

We owned Vandy and Memphis High
...until a Saturday we didn't.
I'm sorry, we were talking about our relationship with Kentucky.

Vandy and Memphis have nothing to do with that.

p.s. But since you brought it up, our record against Vandy since 1928 is 76-14-2, a roughly 84% win rate (have to acknowledge Vandy was a powerhouse a little over a century ago, heh). And our record against Memphis is 22-1, or 96%. In other words, we own both those programs as well. The occasional hiccup doesn't change the fact.
