Ok all of you coaches out there. You get to be John Chavis this week and tell me about your defensive strategy to stop Leak and the Urban Myth's offense. I want details and specifically want to hear about the linebacker and saftety positions. Do you blitz often or not?

Let's hear it.

I wouldn't feed Mahelona for 3 days before the game and slip a pork chop around Leak's neck.

I would blitz heavily.....from everywhere, nickelback, LB'S, and Dline stunts................I would somewhat do the prowler from '01. If they are gonna get funky with the Offense, we're gonna see how they like our funky!!
Lot's of diff. blitz packages. Especially heavy on the Nickelback blitzes and CB/safety blitzes.

Well, THIS week, I don't send my D-Line or my corners after Leak.

If I did, they would get arrested for trespassing.

But on Sept 17th, I would play the Prowler Defense with the line. Have them in a standing position ready to SEE where the option attack was going to FIRST be moving. That's the key to stopping the option, catching where it's going before the offense GETS there.

As for the linebackers, I wouldnt Blitz with them very much. Only in situations where I was fairly confident an option play was NOT going to be run. There is nothing worse against the option than having your LB's already past the line on the wrong side of the play.

As for the Safety's, I would make damn sure that I had the best guys in there for RUN support. Florida's WR's are good, but they couldn't burn the cover men unless Leak had time. I think the Line from a standing position could get there quick enough to flush him out to the LB's that would be waiting and licking their chops.

I really don't expect Leak to finish the game on Sept 17th.

Not only would I blitz, I would show blitz. An agressive defense will cause Leak to make mistakes, and stop the run as well. Even if you played the recievers in man coverage you can put the safeties and LBs in zone, with the blitz coming out of it. If you worry too much about getting beat deep, you will lose. If a QB can't see, he can't throw.

The main goal against Florida is hitting leak, and hitting him hard. Get to the QB early and often and you win over UF. That simple.

I think that if you blitz you play right into Urban Meyer's hands. I think you've got to play a ton of zone to keep all the option, the throws amd the tricks in front of you. Create pressure with loops, twists and any other stunt you can think of to exploit the lack of a TE or FB to help in pass protection.

It's an interesting problem because I think I agree with TRIvol. I think you can take your linebacker right out of the game by blitzing.

GaVol, I think you got it, except I might blitz in certain passing situations.

We have to be agressive though. We can't let our guys be back on their heels waiting for the action to come to them.

I do think Chavis will run the Prowler defense though.

Corner blitz from time to time to get Leak nervous. Mix zone and man coverage. Occasionally bring the MLB to keep him guessing. NO MUSTANG SETS...

He'll mix it up man to man, zone, man blitzes, zone blitzes and maybe a little of the prowler

67 I will really be shocked if we see the prowler again anytime soon. It had it's place but I think it's been put up on the shelf with the all orange uni's.

We'll see. (I love talking about the prowler though )

The prowler must be used. It is like our secret weapon of Mass Offensive Destruction.

Don't call it that, we will NEVER find it.

I would talk to the 3 R's, Randy, Rick and Riggs and tell them to start planning on chewing up a lot of clock, getting first down after first down and keep UF's offense off of the field.

I would then go to Phil and remind him about that thing called field position that he loves so much.

Overall, I agree with Tri and Ga, a lot of blizting of LB's could be dangerous. Especially when UM likes to pick on them. Keeping everything in front of the defense will be the key. Not giving up big plays and getting nasty in the redzone if they get there.

Gotta knock the hell out of Chrissy, he makes bad Descisions with 275 pounders crawling up his back.

Play zones and keep Allen covering Chad Jackson, to keep the play in front of us and try to close as many possible doors to Leak. Try to keep him in the pocket as long as possible so Mahelona and co. can come in and ruin some s**t.

I know this is going back a ways but for those of you that watch spurriers comeback - did you notice that they were using a "prowler" type defense????

Back to the topic at hand - I would have to agree with milo - every body has to stay at home and keep the play in front of them - if we send the LB's in too much they will just nickle and dime us to death -

Also i was watching Sportscenter and they made a statement along the lines that Meyer had tweaked his offense towards passing since the speed of SEC lb's was too dangerous for the option - agian you have to take it for what its worth and where it came from.
