It is possible for us to pressure leak w/out the blitz.....we are supposed to have the best Dline in the nation.

I would agree with that statement - just pointing out that the LB's need to be the ones that keep it all together.

Why don't we get James Banks back and put him at CB......then tell him Chris Leak has good weed. He would be in the backfield in a millisecond.

I wouldn't feed Mahelona for 3 days before the game and slip a pork chop around Leak's neck.

I think that sending backers every down is a recipe for disaster. It's a gamble that I don't think we will have to take. We should be physical enough up front to put pressure on Leak and, hopefully, force a few ill-advised throws. The second half of the "turnover equation," then, is to have somebody deep to CATCH the errant toss, which I think we can accomplish by changing up zone sets with the safeties. We should throw in an occasional corner or safety blitz for added pressure.

I know the "Prowler" is fun to say and maybe even to watch, but we don't want to get stood up at the line if UM decides to get punchy. I say keep the linemen down, stay home for the option/run with the LB's, and play solid coverage on the receivers to win the game.

Florida couldn't (didn't) run the ball against Wyoming. We should be able to stop their run game. Our linemen were getting through to Hackney, he was just physical/athletic enough to escape. I don't know that Leak will be as fortunate.

The shotgun sets with the quick pass will be Florida's best chance at our D. If we can keep everything in front of us and tackle, I think we'll make it a long day for the Gators. If thay have a lot of RAC yards, we could be in trouble.
otoh, our best defense will be our running game if effective. Keep the Forida offense off the field and they can't score.

you have to remember that UF didn't have thier starting running back for the wyoming game - I think this week will show a more true version of their offense since Wynn will be back in the game.

I think to beat the gators the Vols should play 6 db's. More speed on defense cant hurt. The linebackers dont have the speed in my opinion for help in zone pass defense and the gators have shown their running game is weak. I also think the corner blitz would be a devastating weapon to use out of a zone...the saftey comes over and down to cover the wide out as the corner comes hard at leak. id use 4 d linemen....and use the one linebacker as a spy for qb keepers, draws dives etc. Also bring a saftey up on the line over center, to camoflage a corner blitz. I think to beat florida were gonna have to have at least 7 sacks...and 3 takeaways.

I think the key is the line of scrimmage, our linemen gotta control the line and get in Leaks face, weve showld in the past that we can bat balls down weve gotta do that again. We cant put all the pressure on our secondary and linebackers, sooner or later they will get burnt. The linemen have to get deep into the florida backfield and get sacks, hurries, knockdowns, and batted balls. I think with our line we can do that if they are hungry enough, i still like the idea of not feeding them for a few days.

Attack attack attack.

Put the pressure on Leak early and often.

Blitz him, but don't give up the big play in the process.

Chief has said he has 8 linebackers that he would not be afraid to play on any series of downs. Use them. Substitute them frequently to keep fresh legs patroling the perimeters. If we keep the short routes covered and turn in their backs with aggressive fast linebacker play, they don't stand a chance. If we allow them to beat us on the corners we are in big trouble.

Let the safeties play a little soft to cushion the threat of a deep ball and let the front 7 take control of the game.

On offense; establish the run, then ... run some more, after that run some more. Get Riggs into a rythm and soften them up with the short stuff. Who cares about stretching out the passing routes if we can drive it down their throats and control the clock.

We have a deep threat with either QB.

Why would we want to score quickly if we can run the ball, wear out their D, and control the clock?

Go Vols!!!
