He has decided to hire you as a consultant to hire the next head coach at the University of Alabama. You are going to be paid a LOT of money to hire the right guy. What would you do?

I would compile a short list of possible candidates. I disagree that they need one that has head coaching expierence, but the current Bama A.D. says he does, so I would compile two lists, his and mine. If his list didn't net anyone, I would already have some coordinators ready to choose from.

Head Coaches:
Tommy Bowden, Clemson
Mike Leach, Texas Tech
Jim Leavitt, South Florida
Larry Blakeney, Troy
Jeff Bower, Southern Miss

Assistant Coaches:
David Cutcliffe, OC, Tenn
Charlie Strong DC, Florida
Charlie Stubbs, OC Tulsa (Former Alabama Passing Coord. 99 SEC OC of Year.)
Jerry Glanville, DC, Hawaii
John Lovett, DC, Bowling Green (Former Aub and Clemson DC, Miss DB Coach)
Bob Leahy, OC, Louisiana Monroe (Former OC at Pitt, Wash St, Oklahoma St. Buffalo Bills, ETSU and Liberty)

If I was the AD that hired you for this mission and the first name on the list that you came back to me with was Tommy Bowden, I would fire you immediately.

I don't like Bowden, but if I were told to get a list of guys together that would listen to an offer, that would be able to recruit and win games, I certainly would include Bowden on the list.

I'm surprised Clemson wasn't more upset with him after his collapse this season. In a year that FSU and Miami go 6-6, Clemson should easily win the ACC.

:birgits_giggle:No offense O2, but that was exactly what I thought. If they got past Tommy Bowden, surely Jerry Glanville would get you stoned.

Well smart guys, let's see your lists.

Easy to throw stones, not so easy to stand there and take them being hurled at you.

I keep posting the same thing over and over again . . . They need to contact Paul Johnson and Jim Grobe and see who they like better.

The first thing I'd do though is tell everybody to stop leaking info and quit playing out a hiring process in the media. From a management standpoint it's just dumb.

And Before Someone cries about Grobe not being on there, he has already said he is happy at Wake. Which is why he wasn't included. Paul Johnson was left off because he is an obvious choice. My lists were "think outside the box, yet still be viable possibilities".

Cop Out.

If Alabama even considers any of those guys, except Leavitt and maybe Leach, their fans should hang Mal Moore from the uprights at Bryant Denny Stadium. As I stated in an earlier post today, they need to go to Grobe and Johnson. Failing that, they should call Gary Patterson.

Still a Cop Out.

Glanville's expierence alone makes him a better candidate than Paul Johnson.
No it, doesn't. They're not hiring a WWE manager, they're hiring a head football coach. Johnson has won a National Championship. Glanville has never won anything, anywhere.

With Johnson, it's just a matter of whether somebody wants to roll the dice on trying to run the flexbone. He definitely can handle it from a management standpoint.

What are you talking about being a cop out? I'm not following.

Instead of doing the research to look up candidates that are viable and wanting to move up, or have ties to Alabama, you selected the two names that every mullet lover in Tuscaloosa already knows.

It was a cop out for you to select such simple candidates.

. . . and obviously you're brilliant for bringing up Jerry Glanville.

Here's a name that will never be considered but would do good job - Chris Hatcher.

It's also a waste of time to sit here and read a list of every obscure coordinator in the South. Those guys have the same chance of being Alabama's head coach that Michael Richards does of being inserted as President of the NAACP.

If FSU doesn't hire him as their offensive coordinator, they're missing a real opportunity.
