I can't stand the man because of the arrogance he shows. But he's a smart man & I give him credit for all the things he's done to help the women's game to become more visible. Before he came along nobody had ever heard of the Uconn Huskeys. I think, along with more than half the nation, that his team is by far the one to beat for the NC this year. All those teams that his team will face this year are sure to think to hurry up & get it over with. UCONN doesn't just win. They want to win BIG & embarrass the other team with lopsided scores as to put the fear of god into their opponent. It's their time to shine in the college women's bb world. Let them have their day & time as much as I hate it. One day it will come to an end. I just wish Tennessee was still a thorn in his team's side & we could still have some great basketball battles to watch between the two schools. It was always a fun rival game to see when Uconn was on the schedule. Hopefully, TN will become better sooner than later in the future where we can battle them again for a Championship title ring.

W Tn is right, one day their time will come to an end. The sooner the better as my mama used to say :)

However the point of the original post was to get past him & his team and look at what he is saying. Just as Pat brought up & nourished wbb when it was nothing he is making an attempt to make things better for all of wbb. I am sure that PHS would be the first one to say, "at least hear what the man has to say". Unfortunately she isn't able to continue the fight to make the game better.

My mama also said cutting off your nose never improved the way you look :)

UT women's BB is in the same lull that UNC men's BB went through when Dean Smith retired (much too early imo). We hired within the family tree and it is costing us big time. It is costing us with recruits, with coaching, and ultimately, with wins. The program needs to go a different direction in terms of the next HC, imo.

you're right the parallels are ironic. lets hope our situation will be different than North Carolina after Dean. they had to go through two coaches to get back on top. now they've fallen off again.

That may or may not be right. Last year, Holly, in her first year, gave us the best season we've had SINCE our last championship - regular season SEC champs and a #2 seed elite 8 appearance in a reasonably competitive game that we lost.

We are not finished with this season. Still time to win the SEC regular season and tournament. Still time to lose them both. Still time to get a #1 or #2 seed. Still time to get something much worse. Still time to make it to the final 4. Still time to get booted first or 2nd round of the NCAA tournament.

I don't see how we have enough information to know yet.

They hired from the family tree to win two titles in the last 8 years. Maybe we just hired the wrong branch. But given the circumstances of CPS retirement I don't see how we were in a position to say no if HW was her handpicked choice.

I think you are misinterpreting the reason for the lopsided scores uconn puts on opponents. It's not an attempt to embarrass or cause fear.

The philosophy is to play every possession with the same passion and effort regardless of the score. Same goes for practice. Players are competing for playing time. Relax just once in a game and you're just benching yourself, regardless of the score. Notice in a uconn game when a player makes one mistake and they are immediately yanked from the game and given a talking to. That's why they don't take bonehead shots, why they don't take plays off, or why their fouling dropped off immediately when the rules changed.

Auriemma's theory is that if you take it easy on inferior opponents you are just teaching yourself to play relaxed. If your pass isn't crisp because the opponent won't intercept it anyway, you're just teaching yourself to be a sloppy passer and that will hurt when you play a good opponent.

I don't know if I'd call Geno arrogant. He's certainly outspoken and the press loves him because he can always be counted upon to say something of interest to be printed. His hope is that opponents will improve to the point that they can challenge his team. He certainly isn't going to dumb down to make his team less dominant.

Amazingly, his practices are open to coaches. He's never turned down a coach that asked to attend a practice. Perhaps Holly should give him a call.

Yes, anything can happen, but after watching recent games including the Alabama game, thinking the LVs are on the right track is merely wishful thinking. You must realize that with the raw talent possessed by the players, they team is woefully under performing. Also, if this continues, recruits will slowly drift away from choosing TN. These are 17 year old kids. History to them is the past 5 years. They never even heard of the Beatles. They have new heroes, and if a team slips for a few years, they are toast.

So, it is important for Players like Mercedes to improve to show potential recruits that they will be developed. By not showing improvement over the years, Simmons has hurt the brand.

Don't think past success will lead to future success. The team and coaches must work for it. No amount of wishful thinking will accomplish anything.

They should but they won't. Too much pride and unwillingness to recognize that the ways of the past won't work anymore.

The thing is Geno is young. He could easily double Tennessee up in national titles by the time he is done. The only thing that may prevent it is the new American conference doing to UConn what non-BCS conference status has done to Old Dominion and Louisiana Tech.

I think there are more moves coming though and eventually they will be in the ACC.

i would have to disagree with this part,he is an arrogant prick and all ways will be,he doesn't really care about womens basketball, like CPS has

he would have been gone to the mens side ,long ago,if somebody had ever offered him,now he is just sitting back and enjoining what Pat and others did for womens basketball, and yes as you can tell,i don't care for him :)

What is it that makes you think he's arrogant? He's funny, friendly, personable and liked by many, including his former players.

Regarding coaching men, he's been offered men's jobs in the past.

Gov, you're a riot, pretending not to like Geno.:)
