Your Heisman ballot

I know everyone hates it because of 1997, but I'm just curious to see what everyone looks like. I think #1 is pretty obvious

And 2009.

If there was ever a year where a defensive player should have won the damn thing, it was 2009. There was no clear-cut favorite on offense, there was a very clear-cut favorite on defense, and the emergence of said defensive player played a huge part in Nebraska going from 371 points allowed to 146 (even with an additional game added in). Nebraska lost two games by one point and one game by two points.

And that defensive player finished fourth in voting. Ridiculous.

It's not the best player award anymore, everyone knows it.

IMO being invited as a defensive player is the same as winning it. Iirc suh was the first lineman invited since Warren sapp.

Let me start by saying, the Heisman is a joke. However, in the spirit of participation, I will throw out a few names....

1. Denard Robinson - I know what you're thinking, but I believe the statistics support it.
2. Cam Newton
3. Luke Kuechly - Boston College, 102 Solo tackles, 69 assisted tackles
4. Andrew Luck
5. Me

Was it ever really a "best player" award? The only time they even bothered to really make that distinction was in 1997, which was as ridiculous as it could get.

I'm not usually a fan of Mark Schlereth, but I think he said it best when he said that the Heisman is basically a higher version of the Camp, Walker, and O'Brien awards.

Best rb or qb on team with the best record is more like it.

But there isn't really a hard and fast definition, so people can vote as they see fit.

Kellen Moore is probably one of the most instinctive and intelligent QB's to step on the field this year.

Moore is a good QB. I'm not denying that. But Jared Zabranksy was pretty good too. I don't see all the love Moore gets.

Moore is better than Zabransky. Having only thrown 8 INTS in 2 years and a billion TD's is pretty telling. Didn't I hear that he could possibly finish with a perfect passer rating?

Right now he's currently a couple points behind Sam Bradford for all-time college career passer efficiency, but if he comes back and puts together a similar season next year I believe he will be statistically the best passer in NCAA history.

Like I said before, Moore is good. And I shouldn't have said slightly better. He's better than Zabranksy, but let's be honest. Moore is somewhat a product of the system. Now he is very accurate, and smart with the ball. But great college coach, plus best skill players in conference, plus great line, but excellent offensive system= A lot of success no matter who is the QB.

Being a system guy didn't stop Danny Wuerffel from winning it. Also, I think that if you look back historically the Heisman has been based at least in part on a student athlete's body of work up to the year of the award. For me, Newton has too many intergrity issues that are already proven (admitted and convicetd thief and an academic fraud) to merit the award. I guess that some of you would give the Heisman to a child rapist if his stats were good enough.

None of that has been proven (the academic issues, and I believe the computer issues were dropped).

Computer issue he plead guilty to theft to get pretrial diversion and avoid doing time for a felony based on the value of the computer he stole.

edited to remove my soapbox editorial that probably nobody gives a hoot about anyway

zjcvols...........
It was obvious in 1997 also....PM did not have the best year and did not deserve the trophy.

Cam is elligle and is the best player in the country...If he does not win.....the trophy is a joke!(it already is )..........UT has never been screwed by the Heisman. Jim Brown was better than Majors or Hornung in 56 and Woodson was better than PM in 97 , and Charlie Ward was better than Heath in 93. Lauricella in the 30's ...who knows ( my grad-mom dated him BTW)

Im still having a hard time understanding why the OP had RGIII on the ballot to begin with.

Newton would get my vote.

None of this mattered for Troy Smith, who was not only suspended for a bowl game for taking cash from a booster but also had an assault conviction for his involvement in a fight that left a girl with a broken arm.

I don't think I heard either of those mentioned a single time during his Heisman year by the national media.

None of that should have been mentioned anyway when talking heisman. Its about what you do on the field and newton is by far the most deserving.
