New to the board, I usually just read, but after tonight I need to post.
I go on Scout and see that AJ Alexander just committed to Pittsburgh, which was rather a given that he would stay close to home.

The real question I want your honest opinion is, Why haven't we had a solid commitment since September of last year?

Do you understand that I have been on CSTV, Rivals, and Scout every other day or so, and noticed commitments are coming from all over the US and outside to go with teams that have had down years. Why could we not build on momentum of 4 wins in a row at the end of the year. Why are we in panic mode for DT and OT, and the only reason we end up with McClain and Wadley, and maybe Thompson, is the lack of scholarships from other schools. Why is this year so pathetic?

So the honest question is What are we lacking or not giving to recruits that others are offering?

This happens alot. We have a great year and then a down year and/or a decent year or two. Then we'll have another huge year. We just need to add some depth in some areas with this class and hit OL/DT hard. We are still in it with a few of each. Hopefully we can pull some of them.

Think of the need you are stating, and the areas of need. OL/DL

IMO-
Page- Clemson
Thomas- LSU
McClain- with others out of schollys- Tennessee

and DL

I think we MUST get Thompson, others are looking slim

just don't know what happened this year. It is more like we have just lost steam, we were frontrunners for Mackey, DC Jeff, Coples, we were in it with Alexander, and Guy. I dont think CPF can close

I don't the think the struggles have anything to do with Fulmer and his recruitng abiltity. Alot of the players you mentioned committted before Fulmer started recruiting. And I think that the vacant jobs also hurt us in recruiting.

I don't think LSU is pushing for Thomas. And I know they aren't pushing as hard as we are if they are.

We will see about DT. I think Askew could very much switch.

Ummm, let's see. Mackey and Coples had us as their leaders because they didn't have any other big offers at the time. We dropped Jefferson because of grade issues. Alexander and Guy are staying closer to home which was obviously a big deal to them.

If Page goes anywhere other than UT, I think it will be Clemson over Notre Dame but were definately in it for him...

It's great that we're only getting players that other schools don't even care to recruit this year, given that Tennessee needs an immense amount of talent to compete...

yeah.....but we have a young team and if we could ever sustand a extremely weak recruiting year its now. next year we should be back into the swing of things. im not too worried......but dont get me wrong im not comfortable

We are not hurting in the skill positions, which is why we are not seeing the big splash recruits. We will be fine.

this year was more about filling some needs and add some depth at OL and DL...if we can do that then it won't be a total wash...i think we give this new staff a year and the class next year will be very good.

Florida and Georgia never have bad years in recruiting. You're right, we aren't hurting at skill positions. Still though, our goal this year was to sign several linemen. As in more than one or two. We also need to recruit a couple linebackers, and hopefully we land a couple. But still, Tennessee should NEVER have a year this down.

As of now we haven't done that, and we're not goin to land any stud linemen (Bailey is decent and so are McClain and Thomas if they sign), but we were supposed to do better in that department this year. As far as the DL goes, unless we land Thompson and Wadley we will be hurting down the road.

I know this means nothing...The university plane was in Birmingham yesterday evening and before it came home, it went to several places in Bamy today...The Plane, The Plane!!! it stopped in Huntsville home of JoMarcus Savage and in Birmingham and Muscle Shoals. Antoine McClaine and Jerrell Harris are from around these parts. Of course, one might conclude that Steele was visited as well. Point being, I wouldn't say it's over or that CF can't close or that there might not yet be a change on the defensive side of things. A former administrator might have gone to visit a sexretaty down there, ya never know.

we have 2 good DT that will be in the rotation this year (Brimfield and Langly) hopefully we pick up Thompson and wadley this year with maybe another surprise...we get Sykes next year(grades permitting) Gerald Williams this year and hopefully Cory Hall next year who did very good in juco this year...so all is not lost we have talent coming in...and still in it for some very good OL such as Page and McClain

oh and by the way, so far this year, 2 offensive linemen and 1 defensive lineman commited, and one of the o-linemen may never see the light of day.

This happens to Tennessee alot, but it sure doesnt happen to USC or UF or even UGA.

I saw that there was a QB whom commit to BAMER, Major Ogilive's son. Wondered if anyone knows if we have a similar program which would allow kids whose fathers have played previously, to not affect the football athletic schollys?

Doesn't matter. At the end of the day, only 85 football players can be on scholarship.

This is the reality in division we face.(Recruiting Rankings)

UT Florida UGA

2002 2 20 3
2003 18 2 6
2004 11 7 6
2005 4 15 10
2006 23 2 4
2007 3 1 9

I know Zook started late in 2002 and Meyer's first recruiting was 2005.

We are really backed up against a wall every year when we get hit hard like this every few years. We really fall behind two divisional opponents.

how about instead of a smart-a response why don't you actually come up with reasoning, about why once every 3 years we fall flat on our face?
