Ok haven't been watching..... And I'm trying to get back into watching Grizz.
So question 1) is Ja back and playing?
2) Saw Edey flamed out quick in 1st game. Was it as bad as advertised?
3) Did this team get any better in the draft? Can they get a decent run together assuming Ja is back?

1. Yes - looking great. vision, playmaking, explosiveness, finesse, leadership, shot are all thereOk haven't been watching..... And I'm trying to get back into watching Grizz.

So it really comes down to Edey. I want really fond of the pick but he is what he is. He'll either get it together or he won't. He's been the beneficiary of charitable college whistles in his career but that Deboe ball won't cut it in the NBA. Hope he gets it together.1. 2. No - terrible whistle from refs for the game & rookie whistle showed its ugly head. Got benefit of doubt in 1st half tonight with no fouls. Then 3rd quarter the refs tried to call everything on him. 4 fouls in a few minutes. He's getting hammered on every offensive possession with few calls (only 8 FTs despite shooting everything in the paint & getting attacked for every rebound), and then getting called for marginal contact on D.
3. Yes/yes.
-----3a. Edey has crazy high ceiling, but understandable questions around durability, ability to play at NBA pace, lateral quickness against more mobile bigs. He's slimmed down and isn't as oaf-ish as many would claim. New offensive system has created some overthinking/slow play vs previous years. Wells looks like good rookie prospect. Spencer has upside, but is on a 2-way. The team really needs some time to gel. JJJ's return will help. Also, Vince, GG, & Luke are all out right now. That's 4 of our top 11 out right now. Almost an entire rotation.
-----3b. Again, new system is going to take a little acclimation. Last year's benefits (experience for young players & development of core guys such as Bane's playmaking & Jaren's increased responsibility) are present. However, current roster doesn't have much in-game experience together. It'll take some time. Smart has been a bit of a question mark. His stats don't reflect his Celtics play, but certainly didn't benefit from a full roster last year or the first 2 games this season. We need him to step up. SPJ needs to pan out as backup PG. Edey's success is pivotal, as no other C is starter worthy. BC is great off bench, but he's not a starter. Other than those 2, its just Huff (undersized 2-way stretch center), Santi (really is backup 4), & JJJ ( also a 4, but with some experience at 5).
edey is an absolute disaster in pick n roll defense
Which is a problem because we have exactly zero neutral perimeter defenders, much less a good one
This version of smart cannot guard the ball which makes him unplayable..but he’s going to playLet's see how it looks like JJJ. He's not going to fix rebounding issues but he's going to cover up some of defensive issues. Smart, Konchar, and Vince are all competent defenders but they leave a lot to be desired shooting the ball so you can only play 1 at a time (especially with Ja, JJJ and Edey not giving you much shooting)...
