Ted Stevens would be another example, although he has hooked up a brother or two up in Caribou Country.

others:
Dan Rostenkowski
Jim Traficant
Tom DeLay

all those guys should've gotten the "thrown out on their asses" treatment long before they left Congress.

I disagree. If the state or district wants them back, they vote them back. You may think they're idiots or corrupt, but if their idiotic or corrupt constituency wants them back, that's their right, no?

hence the argument for term limits, since Americans won't make the best decision for the country. They'll put a congressman's ability to shovel piles of pork ahead of everything else.

I just don't see how term limits stops that. It essentially lowers the bar for everyone so everyone has more equal footing. That's all fine and good, I guess, but I don't see why they wouldn't keep shoveling pork.

because, in theory, they would finally be looking out for the good of the nation as a whole rather than permanently vote gathering.

problem is, it's very difficult for any real challengers to get a wedge in unless something scandalous happens.

Besides, I just don't think it should be a career. It's usually a net negative for everyone to have someone serve forever.

I'd be open to term limits for House members and no term limits for Senators.

Look I understand your premise, but I think this cycle is about to blow your theory outta the water. Many, many Republicans are going down, and most are not involved in scandals. Same thing happened to Dems in '94.

the difference being is that in 1994 the GOP had a clear agenda, a conservative agenda that a majority of Americans voted for. Now, the motivation seems to be a seething hatred for George W. Bush more than any agenda or policy of the democrats.
