I too wrestled for 7 years in junior league. I took 4th in the state in 7th grade, and 2nd in the state in 8th grade. I wrestled one year of HS, but I have bad knees and tore my ACL.

Played linebacker and special teams when my higschool team beat Valdosta. They were the number one highschool team in the nation that year. I got run over twice in that game......I also intercepted two passes that year, and fumbled them both on the interception return. Oh well. Was given scholarship offers to punt, and I followed a girl to another college instead.   That sounds like an 18 year old doesn't it.

Most people on this board probably don't realize how impressive an accomplishment that is. Valdosta was a football machine that was ranked nationally for years. There aren't too many that can claim to have beaten them.

It was just a fluke. Warner Robbins drilled us the very next week. The coolest thing about the win was an article in the AJC that I still have. The headline was "No More Joy in Winnersville". It had a picture of Nick Hyden standing by their trophy case.

No fluke! I've just submitted my vote for you as first team on the first annual "All VolNation Post Athletic Team". :biggrin2:

A little :blush2: but I'll just go with my best sport, soccer. I also played bball, fball and ran CC but just for fun. Played for Bearden 90-93 and lettered 3 of 4 years. Won district champ in 92. All-district keeper and all-region honorable mention in 93, my Sr. year. Won 2 state titles on my club/travel team. First Bearden keeper to shut out Farr and I also beat Webb 2 years in a row. The Webb wins were the best because I went there for middle school and never made their team (all political, we weren't rich). :biggrin2: Got a scholarship offer to Sewanee but went to UT instead. One of those things that makes you wonder "what-if".

Thanks for letting me brag a little. :devilsmoke:

I went 6 for 6 in a church softball league game; single, 4 doubles and a HR. The fun part was that we played on a field out in the country that right field was only 235' but there was a 5 ' bank, a 5 ' fence and a 20' chicken wire fence on top of that. 5 of the hits landed on the chicken wire and came almost all the way back to the infield on their on. The other was a line drive that just cleared the chicken wire. The pitcher for the other team had said no one could hit a HR against him and we had 2 guys that could to left(280'), well they didn't...he walked them all 6 trips. I was the right handed leadoff batter and when I hit the HR he gave me the evil eye literally the entire trip around the bases. We had a great team then and only 2 of the guys had played high school ball and only one of those played in college but we could play defense and hit enough.
