If I had to rate our play through the first ten games, it would be near 10/10. Let's call it a 9.6 just because the Illinois game was close.

Can't possibly disagree more regarding the Illinois game. Hostile setting against a really good, well coached, and long team, and we lose our engine and our primary scorer for much of the game, Milicic in the midst of a nasty shooting slump, and we still find a way to get the W?? That's a game we very likely lose last year! I'd call it a 12/10.

I am overall pleasantly surprised with our excellent play thus far. I thought we were likely to take a notable step back compared to last season, but the results so far do not support that idea. There are lots of talking points; here are some of my takeaways:

1. Success in the transfer portal. I'm sure some of you are aware of my critiques specifically on transfers over the years, but Barnes & co have made tremendous improvements in the last two cycles. We are now reaping the rewards of this work. I really like all of our most recent transfers, and Jordan Gainey has cooked up a massive crow casserole for me and others who doubted him.

2. I'm not sure if there are any metrics that would support this, but I think we are handling close-range layups much better than previous seasons. It's no secret that we have seen many unexpected misses at the rim over the years, but I have definitely noted a substantial number of made shots this season that likely would have been misses in previous seasons.

3. I think our balance and chemistry are high quality, especially considering the young age of the current season. We are playing fluidly and deliberately with minimal bouts of sloppiness/uncohesiveness.

4. Now for a con, our depth is not good, to state the obvious. It may not matter, but at the same time, it could potentially tank our season if someone were to suffer an injury.

If I had to rate our play through the first ten games, it would be near 10/10. Let's call it a 9.6 just because the Illinois game was close. You can't play much better basketball than our team has so far imo. Idk if we win the SEC or go to the Final 4, but it's not for nothing that we're the current #1 team.

These are just a few things that came to mind, please share your thoughts and anything else you've noted!
The depth concern can be assuaged with 3 things:

1) Cam Carr returning and being a solid piece of the bench.
2) Dubar building on what he did last night, continuing to improve, and giving us a solid depth piece at the 4 (which allowed Cade and Igor to play the 5 some when Felix is out).
3) No more injuries.

If those 3 things occur, we’re fine, from a depth perspective.

For sure. That and our bigs have to stay healthy. If we lose Okpara or Milicic for any extended period of time we are toast. Philips and Dubar off the bench can be the key..as starters it would be tough not necessarily because they arent good but because we got nothing behind them.

That three though… no, no, no, YES! He’s got a pretty flat shot, but no fixing it now. As long as he’s got the range.
I like the fact that he’s not nervous or afraid to take that shot as he clearly had a second to think about it.In years past players seemed to be tentative at times in big moments but he seems to be different. He seems to play better when he’s patient and just gets into the flow of the game.

Only concern is the depth on the inside losing JP. You never want to play Barnes in Nov, Dec or Jan. His teams are doubly tough to beat then.

Nothing matters til March which is when Barnes will fail once again. The basketball season is to long to be fully invested time wise. Football is getting that way.

Except for the 6 straight NCAAT invites, 2x SEC regular season championships being locked up, 3x SECT finals appearances, the SECT championship, the 3x Sweet 16s, and the Eight 8 which all happened in March.

Weak sauce...this is probably the worst troll effort in the history of VN and that's saying something. LMAO

But, lemme guess, you're going to double-down on this aren't you?
