And now reports are that LSU’s Defensive Coordinator, Dave Aranda, is the leading candidate to get the open Baylor HC job.
Jesus, I’ve never seen a team so gutted after a season. If Aranda goes, that means they’ve lost BOTH coordinators, 10 dudes to the NFL, including their generationally good QB.
The only thing left from that national title team will be Jamar Chase and Ed Orgeron.
I don't think anybody ever questioned Coach O's recruiting ability or ability to create camaraderie with a team and motivate them. What he's showed at LSU is an ability I didn't think he had, which was an ability to go outside his area of expertise and hire a great staff of offensive assistants, plus generally be responsible for an entire program. LSU will need to reload in a big way, but if he can duplicate what he's done already they'll be fine. Coach O is not a great Xs and Os coach, but it seems like he's aware of that now and thinks of himself more as a manager/CEO, as opposed to a defensive line coach who also happens to be the head coach.I agree with you. So many here at VN write off Coach O and much of that is based on how he performed as HC at Ole Miss. I think he learned a lot there as well as other places he's been including with Kiffin on The Hill. I can tell you first hand when Haden fired Kiffin and left him on the tarmac at LAX, he chose Orgeron as interim. Orgeron took that team on his back and they didn't lose another game the rest of that season. The Trojan kids loved him and played for him. He would have loved to have stayed at SC but he just didn't fit the mold Lynn Swann envisioned as SCs new AD. They hired Helton and been mediocre ever since. But Coach O proved to me based on his season as interim at SC that he could be a great HC. He's again proved that at LSU, do not underestimate him.
The defense wasnt bad, wasnt quite elite, but was at least good to great. I would take the 2001 Miami D over the 2019 LSU D, but I am taking this LSU offense over everyone.Maybe those who didn't see Miami in 2001. I can get on board with it being the best offense ever but they are not the most complete team.
I dont think LSU played lights out against Bama either.LSU had the best OFFENSE in history this year-----hands down, no doubt.
But--how quickly we forget....
Bama should've beaten them....
Bama left at least 13 points on the field against LSU....
1. Tua just drops the ball in the 1st QTR--at least 3 points there..
2. Tua hits his receiver in the back with the ball that bounces back to the BEATEN defender--who takes it to the house...7 points there...
3. Bama FG kicker misses FG to tie the game....3 points there....at LEAST 13 points right there....
LSU had a magical, perfect storm of a season.....and I'm happy about it to tell the truth....
I was sick of Bama winning everything....
But OBJECTIVELY---BAMA could've and should've beaten LSU....
and Auburn had their chances, too.
I dont think LSU played lights out against Bama either.
LSU was one of those teams that actually got better as the year went on. Markedly better. They peaked at the perfect time, the only real time it matters. At the end.
I dont think Miami wins the NC game against LSU this year. First half of the year, give me Miami. But not at the end.
Never argued they arent going to have a drop off. And I dont consider it too bad if the worst an offense plays is against two top 30 defenses.Well, here's another way to think about it......
LSU had to have the best offense in the history of college football just to beat Bama by 5 points....and Auburn by 2 points at home
And BAMA's defense this year was the worst Bama defense I've seen on the field in over 5 years.
LSU's season was a perfect storm---Burrow had a season as a QB that comes along once in a lifetime in college FB. I am truly happy for that kid!
But they're gonna lose a lot of their skilled players... I wouldn't be surprised to see LSU drop to 8-4 or 9-3 next year....
GO VOLS!
jelli much gator..?
I will tell you this to save you some humiliation. It's just been discussed to death on the main board. The Gates aren't jelly one bit. The six National Championship smack is about as weak sauce as you can throw. Which is why next year may be the most important year in Vol football in the last 20.
