Zeigler all-time steals leader

Congrats ZZ! He deserves every accolade and record that comes his way. He plays the game the way it’s supposed to be played. I’m trying to savor every game we get to watch him this year, because I will sure miss seeing him out there next season. Barnes was right when he said at the start of his Freshman year that he thought ZZ would go down as one of the all-time fan favorites. I hope he can get a shot at the next level, and when his playing days are over he can come back here and help coach if he wants to pursue that.

ZZ deserves all the credit. I have enjoyed watching him ball EVERY game. The 3, the floater and the lob, amazing to watch. His ability to defend 94 ft from line to line is a thing of beauty and unmatched on the team. We will miss him when he is done. Looking forward to the rest of the season on both ends of the court.

He’s the kind of guy you absolutely HATE defending you. I love the way he plays!
Zakai Zeigler: loves his teammates, coaches & fans. All love him (except opponents, who are anxious for his departure).

True, and to think, that guy had one D1 offer coming out of high school.
Another reason I prefer to have a developer as a coach of a guy that just recruits, like the man in Arkansas. Most of the guys Barnes has had success with here were guys that were not very highly recruited and were thank you so much here 3 plus years. A lot of coaches talk about system and culture, but it’s real here. Im not discounting ZZ’s talent and hard work, of course, but I love how this staff brings on guys like that who buy in, take hard coaching, do the work, etc instead of just chasing guys with a bunch of stars by their names.

In 118 Games Zakai Zeigler has set the career record for steals with 215. It took Santiago 149 games to reach 212 and before then Vincent Yarbrough had played in 127 games to set the record at 211.

Johnny Darden's career assists record of 715 is within reach. Zakai currently has 600 with at least 14 games remaining in the regular season. Without post season he'll need to average 8.3 a game in those 14 to pass Darden.

A few single season records

Assists is 227 by Rodney Woods
ZZ has 128 on the year so far and needs 116 more for the career record, so that would give him 244 (or more) on the season and also break that 50 year old record.

Steals is 78 by LaMarcus Golden a 31 year old record that is less likely to be reached
ZZ has 34 on the year & Mashack sits at 35 both would need 40+ to surpass Golden

At the start of the 2nd half last night, Z just broke their defense down! He made steals, made shots, created assists all while having fun. When he and Gainey both started feeling it, Dagger, game over!

Barnes can get Kevin Durants and also can develop Zakai Zieglers

The absence wasn’t that extended in terms of games played. I don’t say that to diminish his accomplishment, but rather to point out that he is a dawg
Yeah, 7 games total were missed. 8 counting the Arkansas game itself since he only played 3 minutes before the tear.

But projecting averages those 8 games cost him

85 points
43 assists
22 rebounds
16 steals
