Zoner Summer Olympics thread

Men’s high bar medals ceremony, gymnasts from China and Taiwan standing side by side, sharing the bronze medal. Perfect. 😉

High bar competitors were pressing. I don’t think that I’ve ever seen so many falls. Women pressed their floor routines. I can’t recall as many steps out of bounds.

BTW, Biles routine difficulty was more than 1 point higher than any other, but she stepped out twice and earned silver.

Jordan earned bronze. She didn’t step out during her routine and edged out the Romanian who didn’t step out, either.

Both of the first two sets went to deuce. Tied at 1 set apiece. Knockout round. Both teams playing to stay alive. Terrific match!

Honestly, in all my years, I never knew this was a thing...But many countries reward their athletes that win an olympic medal. THe Phillipine gymnast that has a couple medals will be getting 250K, a house, a furnished apartment, etc. Some of the poorer countries give cows, 100 bags of rice, anything they can afford to gift. The US is near the bottom. A gold medal is only 13K. But, the athletes have an extensive sponsorship network.
It’s $37.5k if a US athlete wins gold

Yesterday, USA Allman won gold in women’s discus. USA Kendrick won silver in men’s pole vault. USA won bronze medal in women’s 3x3 b’ball. USA took silver in mixed skeet shooting.

Quincy Hall comes from behind and runs past four leaders to claim gold! Personal best by all five finishers. Awesome 400 final!

Rooks shocks everyone moving meters out front in the final lap of the Steeplechase. Defending Olympic champ, Bakkali caught him in the end to be the first Olympian to repeat in 100 years. USA Rooks claimed silver.
