A pretty low bar for another college quarterback. For a kid 6 months out of high school, I think the bar is still pretty high. Feel free to correct me, but I couldn't find a single example of a true freshman winning the starting spot over an established starting quarterback in the 2019 season...
Should he transfer? No.
It's highly unlikely that a true freshman is going to walk into the locker room and displace a senior QB with 2.5 years of starting experience under his belt. Tennessee is a good situation for a quarterback and I don't see Guarantano easily finding a better situation for...
You ever hear of 'Peter's Principle'?
It's a business concept that describes how people tend to rise to their "level of incompetence". In short, if you are good at job, you get a promotion. That cycle happens over and over until you find yourself in a position that you no longer excel in and...
I think you are better off getting comfortable with that idea that JG will play significant time next year. I don't have a lot of optimism that a true freshman is going to come in and push out a senior QB with 2.5 seasons as the starting QB under his belt.
Talent is great, but experience is...
It's really not up to him, just like it wasn't this year. He simply didn't have a better option to go to.
Saying that he will be be on the hot seat for not running off his best QB is a bad take, no matter how you look at it.
I am all for schedule tough OOC opponents when the program is successful, but there has been absolutely no benefit in some of these OOC matchups the past decade. These games have also caused us to miss bowl games recently as well (2013 & 2018).
2017 - #17 West Virginia, Loss, 40-14
2015 - #19...
Another 4 star took the starting position and the #1 recruit in the country last year pushed him down even further.
No shame here, just seems like a deep position and he didn't see himself cracking the starting line up.
Imagine if LSU said the same thing about Joe Burrow or Ohio State said the same thing about Justin Fields.
Linebacker is a position of need and, provided he isn't an underperformer, he would be a benefit to the program.
It important to remember to take a moment to enjoy these things. It far to easy to look at all that went wrong tonight and complain about it. This team has made tremendous improvements this year and its important to stop and appreciate it, because we know how much worse it can get.
For example...
I think the coaching staff has made it pretty clear that barring injury or a complete blowout, JG will be behind center.
