I didn't see a unanimous ruling coming. I figured at least a couple would have claimed the states have the right to decide who is on or off the ballot.

Colorado would have been within their rights to remove Trump based upon the provisions of state law. But they couldn't remove him based upon a federal law that the state has no authority to enforce.

Yes they still do. They just can't fabricate a reason why someone can't be on the ballot based on what looks like political reasons.

it appears that they run how the election operates but can't effectively opt out of the Federal election by kicking an otherwise qualified candidate for Federal office off the ballot.

watched CNN when it broke - pretty solemn and the analysis was all about looking for bad news for Trump in the ruling.

It feels more and more like SCOTUS, through their actions and decisions, are saying - you have to beat him at the ballot box.
