The AP RARELY releases a final poll. Some of those rankings you are referencing are final REGULAR season polls.
I don't believe Tennessee has ever finished #5 in the Coaches or AP after the tournament until THIS YEAR.
No idea why the AP decided to post a post-season version this year.
They weren’t but they got the luck of the draw. We had a chance to be there in the end. Shots didn’t fall and if refs called the same game for us as the finals we may have beaten Purdue. Couldn’t breathe on porcelain Edey without a foul being called. 5 seems about right, and see no fault in Bama having higher spot because they were final 4.Lost twice to us in the regular season.
They wasn’t the better team.
Nvm misread the poll site.Vols Finish Program-Best Fifth in National Polls - University of Tennessee Athletics
The Tennessee men's basketball is fifth in both major polls to conclude the 2023-24 season, as revealed Tuesday afternoon.utsports.com
"Tennessee's fifth-place finish in the AP Poll ties a program record set in both 2021-22 and 2007-08. This is the first time the Associated Press has released a year-end poll after the NCAA Tournament, as the final poll from 1948-49 through 2022-23 came beforehand.
Additionally, the Volunteers' fifth-place position in the Coaches Poll—the organization has traditionally released a post-NCAA Tournament list—sets a program best. Their prior top mark was seventh in 2007-08."
I should note the 2007-08 #5 AP finish was the REGULAR season since there was no post-season poll.
The #5 finish in the Coaches (which always does a post-season) is the highest in school history, besting 2007-08's #7 finish.
