Chris Conley (Dallas, GA) is considered green to football, but that has not derailed his ability to become a major figure in the 2011 recruiting class. The 6’2, 175 lb receiver has been garnering interest from some of the top SEC programs in the nation. Tennessee has been heavily involved in recruiting the Georgia native. Conley spoke with VolNation about his current recruitment.

“It’s going pretty well since September 1st,” said Conley. “Since school and the season have started, everything has been picking up. Right now, the schools showing me the most attention of the ones that have offered are schools like Georgia, Tennessee, Stanford, and Vanderbilt. The schools that haven’t offered are schools like Oregon, NC State, Alabama, Indiana, LSU, and schools like that. “

The Peach State native has recently begun playing football, so he doesn’t have a childhood favorite school.

“Not really,” said Conley. “I am new to football. Our family was never really into it. I don’t really have any schools ties or things like that. Freshman year was my first year to ever play football, so I never really had any time with schools.”

Even though he has no allegiances, Conley has recently visited Athens to check out the rival school.

“Right now the one that is showing me the most attention that looks the best is Georgia,” said Landry.

Conley explained what he is looking for in his future school.

“In terms of looking for schools I am looking into the academic program that the schools hold,” said Conley. “Then I am looking into the football side of the school. Examples are what type of offense they run that fits my style of play. I look at head coach, and how the head coach carries himself. I want that leadership from someone that I will be following for four years.”

Over the past few weeks, Coach Lane Kiffin has been showing leadership amongst his team. This has caught the eye of Conley and he plans on returning the favor.

“I haven’t gone up to Tennessee, but I am planning on going up to one of their home games this season,” said Conley. “They are recruiting me as a wide receiver. There is not a certain coach recruiting me from Tennessee. I have received a number of things from different coaches like both Kiffins, and other coaches. There is not a specific coach recruiting me.”

Every highly recruited high school football player has the natural ability to become a playmaker, but there are always things to improve on.

“One of my biggest strengths is my size, jumping ability, and ability to make catches,” said Conley. Those are some things that I am good at, but I’m still working to improve on them. My weakness would be my quickness to get off the line. I have been stepping on defensive backs toes. I have to work on that.”

The possession receiver that posted a 4.65, 40 yard dash explained how his Paulding County High School team is performing.

“Our season is going pretty good, “said Conley. “ We got off to a slow start, but we pulled off the big comeback win off LFO, things are starting to pick up. We just won last week. Things are looking good and starting to look up.”

Conley concluded the conversation by explaining his thought process with a timeline for a college choice.

“I don’t really have a timeline for a decision,” said Conley. “I’m just praying about it and learning as much as I can about the process.”
