With the dead period in full swing right now, recruiting seems to be a little quieter. But expect early January to take off like a rocket and finish with a blast off in early February on signing day. One elite 2011 recruit took some time to give us some updates while he started to enjoy the quiet period. Jabari Gorman of Monsignor Pace High in Miami, Fl is an exceptional athlete. At 5’11.5″ 172 lbs he has the ability to play on both sides of the ball. He currently only holds two offers, which are from Ole Miss and Tennessee. However several other to college programs are staying in touch and waiting to view his highlight tape that his coaches are currently working on.
“Recruiting process is really coming along. I really need to talk with my coach and see who has called recently. I also know that he is working on my highlight tape, but that takes quite a bit of time. Right now I’m playing basketball, I’m a shooting guard for my team. I’m also trying to stay in shape as I prepare for the Army combine coming up in early January. I’ll head over to Texas for that I think. I think if I do well there that may also help with recruiting.”
Jabari claims only the two offers, but says several schools have stopped by and send letters regularly. He opened up about who is recruiting him the most right now.
“Tennessee is recruiting me very hard right now. I have heard a lot from Florida, Alabama, Miami, and Stanford. Stanford is interesting, they have amazing academics. I have also gotten letters from Oregon pretty regularly. My teammate Issac Dixon is committed there, I have thought about them pretty early, I’m definitely interested. FSU is recruiting me pretty hard too. I know they had some coaching changes up there, but now that they have some positions filled it looks like they are very close to offering I think. I’ve given them some thought early on. I’ve been getting letters from Michigan lately as well. I think Florida, Tennessee, FSU, Bama, and Miami have been by my school to see me play. I’m not sure about the others though.”
Growing up Jabari always watched Miami as they are the hometown team and were always on TV. He also claims he has been able to get much faster on the field which has helped his game out tremendously.
“Growing up Miami was the main school on TV. I use to watch Sean Taylor, Willis McGahee, and some of those guys. My mother and family would like for me to stay close, but distance is no problem. Schools are recruiting me as a wide receiver and cornerback. Some just as an athlete. My strength has been being able to read what the defense is doing when I’m on offense, and vice versa on defense. It’s an advantage to playing both ways. Only recently have I gotten much faster. I didn’t always have good speed so I’ve had to learn to trust it. I seem to find a way to make plays, also something college coaches like about me.”
