Ray Drew (Thomasville,GA/Thomas County Central HS) has been one of the fastest rising juniors in the entire nation. Colleges have come to see the talented defensive end or even outside linebacker in person as well as making sure he gets enough attention via e-mail and letters.
“I am getting attention from too many schools to name to be honest. I don’t want to exclude anyone from the list so I can’t list any off.”
Drew was invited to the US-Army All-American combine and many scouts were expecting to check out Drew in person but Drew instead decided to check out some colleges up close and personal.
“I decided not to go to the combine and instead I checked out some schools. I recently went to Georgia and Georgia Tech this past season.”
Drew told VolNation.com that other visits are planned but everything on his schedule will need to line up to get them all in.
“I am working on visits to Alabama, Auburn, Florida, and some schools close to home like Tennessee, South Carolina, and some others.”
With Drew looking at trying to visit Tennessee VolNation spoke with him about the new change in the coaching staff.
“I think it is a very good hire to be honest,” admitted Drew. “I like the hire and I will say that it has improved the chances of me looking at Tennessee in a better light.”
“I keep an eye on all the coaching staffs and everything that went on with Kiffn I saw and took notice.”
The Vols will have a tough battle to land the services of Drew however as close to 20 schools have offered.
Alabama, Auburn, Cal, Clemson, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, LSU, Notre Dame, Tennessee, and USC are all schools who have offered among a few others.
Drew informed VolNation.com that he already has an early top five but is currently keeping it a secret because he doesn’t want the information to get out and be public.
“I am going to be the guy who is going to string everyone along (Laughs), I know my top five right now but I don’t want to tell anyone because I don’t want things to get out of hand and to keep my options open.”
Drew has become a top level recruit on both coasts as schools from both sides have offered and more and more are looking towards this talented defensive end. Drew has 72 tackles, 16 for loss, and six sacks as a junior.
