Quinta FunderburkeChesapeake, VA.- Elite recruits are all over the country just waiting to make their college decision. The state of Virginia is not the most fertile grounds in the country often times, but this year coaches are stopping by. One of the nation’s top receivers is tucked away at Oscar Frommel Smith high. ESPNU 150 watch lister Quinta Funderburke has a bevy of offers and is adding them daily. His coach Richard Morgan took some time to review what the latest is with his star player.

“He’s above 20 offers and they are coming in often. We are going to try and narrow the list before the end of May. We are going to whittle down the list because you just can’t head into your senior season talking to 25 or more schools. He’s not really looking at any new schools and if a school hasn’t offered by now they probably aren’t going to be in the mix. We are trying to get down to his choices before his senior season then take some official visits during season. The plan is to take two in September, two in October, and the fifth in November. We will have five visits set up in early June, we are trying to set up visits during out of conference games, to make the trip easier on the coaches.”

Quinta is 6’3″ 205 pounds and is absolutely everything a coach would look for in a premier wide out. His coach had some pretty high remarks for his star player.

“He’s physical, he high points the ball well. He runs great routes for a bigger guy. He’s got great speed too. He’s 6’3″ 205 pounds, he is exactly what everyone wants in a true wide out receiver. He’s not an inside guy, he’s a true wide out. We are just breaking in a new quarterback and he’s been quite the leader. We can’t have spring practice so he’s been instrumental in organizing everyone for some practices.”

Alabama has an ace in the hole of sorts when it comes to Quinta. Last year in the 2010 class, Alabama secured a commitment from top quarterback Phillip Sims, the former quarterback at Oscar Frommel. Is there a chance the two can hook up again for some more touchdown passes at the college level?

“I would say that his interest in Alabama is high. His quarterback just went there and obviously he is intrigued with playing with him again. He is considering that and the fact they are the top school anyways. He’s not worried about the receivers they have committed already. They are mostly smaller receivers, not a true wide out like him. It’s no effect to him.”

The recruiting process can be more than a young recruit can bare sometimes. For Quinta he has some help already on campus to hear about what the school will really offer him.

“He’s got former teammates at 11 or 12 schools right now. Alabama, Penn State, Tennessee, Virginia, and Maryland all have former teammates. So hes had some good insight to what it’s really like at some schools. Tennessee, former line backer Jerrod Askew has been his friend most of his life. Tennessee is coming by soon. They are a little behind right now I think. He hasn’t met the new staff there yet. Florida, depends on the new quarterback and offense they run there. He’s interested but wants to see the new scheme and how he could fit into it.”
