Baton Rouge, LA.- Top rated Redemptorist running back Jeremy Hill has been committed to LSU verbally since September of 2009. Almost a full year already for the 2011 standout. Jeremy is a 6’1″ 224 pound bruising tailback that ranks as a four star back according to ESPN. The playmaker has been pretty quiet through spring evaluations, however it sounds like a couple of things are in the works.
” I’m going to the top gun camp in Daytona next month, I’m pretty excited about that. I haven’t done much with recruiting lately. I will probably take two or three visits before school starts. I’m not sure yet but probably to FSU, Alabama, and Tennessee. I’m probably going to FSU next week in fact, but I’m not sure, nothing has been 100 percent set up. I’m still solidly committed to LSU though. I want to take these visits before season starts that way I can completely put recruiting behind me and focus on my senior season only.”
With a few schools on the short list in addition to LSU. Jeremy spoke about each and what he likes about their programs.
“FSU, I really like how Jimbo runs his offense. He’s got a great offensive mindset. They will really turn that program around, I think it’s a great program. Alabama I like the way they use their running backs. My running style fits in there, they are really great coaches. Coach Saban knows how to win. Tennessee I didn’t really know about coach Dooley when he took the job. Coach Kiffin really got me interested in them before he left. I’m curious to get to know them better, I’ve been getting lots of letters from them.”
Right now Jeremy claims that FSU and Alabama are recruiting him the hardest. He’s an absolute load out of the backfield with some soft hands for catching. Hill is easily one of the more under rated backs in the class and should be viewed as a huge prospect for any school to recruit.
In addition to his ability on the field, Jeremy is a class act off the field too. He takes pride in his work as a youth mentor off the field as well.
“Not a lot of people know that I lead younger guys around me on and off the field. It really pushes me to lead by example on and off the field. I really care a lot about the younger players, the kids that are in 7th and 8th grade, I want them to do learn from my example hopefully.”
Jeremy suffered a minor injury in his spring game, but commented he’s slated to be a hundred percent for fall camp.
ESPN Scouts Inc Evaluation:
Hill is a strong downhill back with good load-back qualities when projecting for the college level. Physically impressive frame and body. Tall, thickly-built with powerful hips and lower-body. Very sturdy and durable. Hits the hole hard with square shoulder pads but runs with good patience and more-than-adequate vision. Sees and hits the cutback sharply with deceptively good feet, quickness and lateral agility. Displays good downhill strength and above average burst through the hole when he plants and gets North. When he runs behind his pads he breaks consistent first contact and is very difficult to arm-tackle high. Upper-body strength is very good and he has the thick body structure needed to absorb a hit and keep forward progress. Yards after contact can be inconsistent though; tends to go down easier when running upright and it hinders his balance and power. Like to see him get his knees pumping more through the hole to avoid getting tripped up. While he flashes good outside burst and quickness to daylight for a bigger back, he does lack great overall speed and an extra gear in the second level to separate. Lacks great explosiveness overall and is more of a steady, consistent runner who can wear down a defense with his combination of size and strength Has some hip stiffness and is not real elusive; tends to miss the extra cut to spring long runs and at times struggles with balance. All that said, Hill is a complete back as he can move the chains inside and out as a runner, catch the ball out of the backfield and is a serviceable blocker. Has workhorse type qualities and is physically ready to make the jump to college. Would not be surprised if he gets a look at full or H-back during his career.
